Any chance of a return of the 330 in next 3 series?

What do you guys think - any chance of a non-turbo engine coming in the next 3-series model change (2012?). It would be nice for them to introduce a NA engine with about 265hp.

They still sell the 330 in europe, as long as 335 sale stay strong, they have no reason to bring it here.

Well, they are going to need to do something to increase the stated HP of the base 3er in the U.S., at least for marketing if nothing else. While the N52 has about every advanced feature imaginable (valvetronic, variable cam timing on intake and exhaust, high compression, premium fuel, etc) it is amazingly rated at only 230hp, less than that of several other manufacturers (Ford, Honda, etc) whose engines are less sophisticated and run on regular gas. While no doubt BMW understates their engine outputs, the marketing guys cannot possibly like it. I saw in the press release that the new F10 base engine will be upped to 240hp, which still seems low, since as you say, BMW already has more powerful versions of this engine in existence (no R&D required). Seems like they could easily do at least a 250hp version which would maintain the separation for those wanting the N54 turbo motor.

I think what will push the powertrain mix being offered will be the crazy MPG requirements. All of the car companies will be forced to sell cars that get higher MPG. I am sure that BMW will have several new engines being offered with the next 3 series because they have too.

I could see this happening. the lower 3 either stays 328 with more power or they just make it a 330 with like 275ish hp and then have the 335 with 325-330 in the next gen to keep up with infiniti and lexus
