JB4 Questions

Hello,

I have a stock 2014 BMW 328i with manual transmission.

I have agreed to purchase the JB4 from a friend for a really good price. I am planning on doing no additional modifications to my car.

I recently learned that Map 1 on the JB4 provides similar power to the stage 1 chip. I have also learned that the OBD2 connection for the BJ4 chip is a huge pain to install on a manual transmission car. I am not very handy, and am starting to regret agreeing to make this purchase (over the stage 1 chip). I rushed into it because I thought it would sell quickly.

Here are my questions:

1. Is it necessary to install the OBD2 connection if I only plan on running map 1? I believe I read somewhere that you can do a “stage 1 setup” with the JB4 by excluding the OBD2 connection?

2. Has anyone here installed the OBD2 connection through the grommet for the hood release cable? I have read that that is the best approach with a standard transmission car. Are they any issues to doing that?

3. What are your thoughts on keeping an “OBD2 extension cable” permanently connected through the firewall and in the cabin, so I don’t have to worry about feeding the wire through every time I install and uninstall the chip?

4. Are there any precautionary measures I can take (using the Bluetooth connect kit/app) to reduce the chance of blowing my engine or screwing something up with my car? I understand that map 1 is fairly safe, but I have still heard of things going wrong. Would limiting the boost slightly be a good idea (if it’s even possible)? I’m a fairly conservative driver, but when I feel like driving fast, I find that the sport mode doesn’t quite cut it.

Thanks!

You do not have to install the OBD if you are only running map 1 ... If OBD is not installed JB4 will operate exactly like the JB stage 1

Awesome. Are there any negative effects to doing this?

Any thoughts on the extension chord idea?

No negative effects except losing out on all the extra JB4 features
