335i m-sport stock tire sizing?

Is the 335i m-sport supposed to have a staggered setup? I got mine with 18s and the setup is square (225 all around). I'm assuming that's the standard m-sport size, and the staggered setup is for the optional 19" wheels?

Xdrives come with the square setup with all seasons but you can get staggered 18s on summers as a no cost option. 19s on summer tires are a $950 option.

So all 19 summers are stagger by default? Or is it something you request when ordering.

19s are optional.

18s are standard.

Dunno how it goes in Canada, though.

Deleting this post as some say it is wrong - another respected forum member told me its correct - and so I do not know for sure the information is valid.

I think you may have meant "wider" in the rear?

I do believe you are correct that AS tires are square, and the higher top speed limiter is removed with AS tire choice, 135mph instead of 155mph, as if it really matters in the US or Canada.

Check the tire type. There are likely All Season tires, unless BMW does something different UP there in colder land.

Maybe Canadian dealers always choose the AS tire option due to the colder weather.
But if you ordered your SA should have asked you which tire type you wanted, and then explained the differences.

I choose the summer tires even though I run AS tires year round.
I didn't want BMW's AS tires because they are not high performance AS tires.
My 335i Msport came in late August and I ran it with the really good summer hi-po tires. I swapped to Conti DWS AS tires around early November last year.

Didn't have a choice on the tires, as the dealer located a car with all the options I ordered. Was just curious about sizing. I'm going to be swapping wheels/tires anyway to non RFTs so it's not a big worry.

As far as I know the 19s only come with summers and staggered in the US. Where have you seen 19s with all seasons and square?

No, that line is correct as I originally stated - and not what one would expect - which is why I put it in the post.

Smaller in rear (or narrower if you prefer - not wider).

When I ordered mine in the dealership with 19" 403M the end of February, the Sales Manager was inputing the order and specifically came back to me and asked if I wanted AS or Summer, so apparently it could be specified either way as they put it in.

Disclaimer, I was ordering a AH3, but I do not believe that would make the difference.

Note to self: Do not post after having a few drinks. What I meant to say was:

Can't be right.

18" M-Sport staggered wheels should be fitted with 225/45 R18 front and 255/40 R18 rear. 19" will be 225/40 R19 and 255/35 R19 at the rear. Wider section at the rear, but lower aspect ratio.

I have no had to buy a tire in 30+ years now, so I have no kept up with how things are designated.

Another respected member of this forum who who's car is admired look at the car beside his and he stated that my wheels were on wrong, with the smaller being in the rear. We then looked at the info in the door frame and the tires are on the car correctly.

225 looked smaller to me than 255, so I thought they were correct.

He said the smaller were on the back, which I figured meant that the 40 in the front and 35 in the rear meant the rear were smaller as 40 looks bigger than 35 to me, so wtf do I know, as I really have not worried about anything but size in inches and Summer v All Seasons when ordering a car - and again, have not had to replace any tires in 30+ year.

I do have, as you stated, 225/40 R19 in front and 255/35 R19 at the rear.

Summer tires on M Sport 335 are wider in the rear, you can visibly inspect it or read it at bmwusa.com. 225 front, and 255 rear.

That's better, so not a smaller tire on the rear. Virtually identical diameter. Just a wider rear tire.

Just to clear up your confusion - tire sizes are stated by inches in diameter and millimeters in width. The sidewall measurement (the smallest number) is a percentage of the width. e.g. 225/40/19 = 225mm/40% of 225/19 inches diameter or 255/35/19 = 255mm/35% of 255/19". 40% of 225 = 35% of 255, roughly; the sidewall heights are roughly equivalent.

RPM90 - side note: how do you like the continental DWS tires. Are they sporty enough for a daily driver (I don't track my car but I have plenty of curvy roads where I live so something that can keep things fun is good. I am thinking of getting the DWS and dumping the P7s as noted I my other post)
