Was the E brake handle easy to replace? I was thinking of getting the red one as well.

Should be cake. Everybody wraps the other trim bits, just make sure you clean it with alcohol and buy quality vinyl. Here's my interior with 3M dinoc.

I have a 2016 428i Sport Line with the red trim and... I hate it. Anyone have a link for the black kit or want to trade? Has anyone actually had success wrapping it?

To do a good job of wrapping it you need to separate the two pieces. That looks difficult, because they're held together by plastic rivets, but you can use a Dremel tool to free the rivets to pull the pieces apart, then use hot melt glue to re-secure the rivets when you put it back together.

Hi guys,

I've loved the piano-black with red accent combo ever since I had it on my previous 328i sportsline.

Even though my current bimmer came with alcantara dash + carbon fiber accent (courtesy the previous owner), I still preferred the piano black + red.

Didn't want to spring the $$ for new dash panels, and didn't feel right parting with the expensive alcantara/cf.

So I made a compromise...kept the alcantara, but vinyl wrapped the cf accents. It came out quite well. Also the cf backing gives the vinyl a nice texture, somewhat like a 'red carbon' fiber. Full job from removing the panels to wrapping the vinyl and refitting the panels took just under 1.5 hours.

Did you have to separate the strip piece to do it? What vinyl did you get and how long was it?

The strip piece cannot be separated from the rest of the panel.

I just got ordinary vinyl wrap for cars from ebay, matte red. Didn't need more than 4 feet by 6 inches total.

Applying it was easy. All vinyl comes with adhesive backing, so applying it to the front and bottom surfaces was easy. Then I traced the outline of the top (where the strip meets the rest of the panel) with my fingernail which created a groove, which then gave me a convenient trail to follow when cutting with an exacto knife.

However the matte red is a little brighter shade of red than the OEM strip. Therefore I was ordered a 'satin chrome red' vinyl (also from ebay). I think that will be closer to the OEM red, which is almost maroon.

I also applied glossy cf vinyl to the door handles and center console, and chrome red 'gap trim line' to the doors and it came out really great. I'll post some pictures soon.

It can, but as I explained a few posts back it takes some work. The problem if you don't is that eventually the wrap will peel away if it's not wrapped around the strip, which you can only do if you separate the strip from the panel.

Interesting! That's pretty much what I intended to do as well in fact! I was going to wrap my dash too though since I don't have the Alcantara one like you. But I figure since when I change my brakes it'll probably be the red M performance ones, might as well have a bit more red to match up too. Which glossy CF wrap did you use? Was it any good? I'd be interested to see pics!

If you take your trims to any decent bodyshop they will paint the strips by masking the rest .

I painted mine in Gloss black , I love piano black

The vinyl wraps around 3 sides of the strip, so it holds extremely well. For the 4th side (i.e. the top), just clean the strip with acetone prior to application, then use a heat gun/hair dryer to seal...that stuff's not coming off.

This is the CF wrap I used. It's very thick and glossy, once applied it doesn't look like vinyl at all.

I'll post some pics tonight.

You could always just get your brake calipers painted red with a faux ///M decal, like I did (see my avatar or profile pic).

I don't supposed either of you ever did a write up of the process? Sounds scary. Didn't you have to sand down the pieces?

Nah plan to upgrade the brakes for some nice looking calipers. Mine are tiny looking with the big open wheels.

No I didn’t do write up mate , yea it does sound scary but it wasn’t after I started .

use fine scotch brite to sand but don’t be hard just do gently as you need to prep surface for paint

1 x think coat of plastic primer
2 x coats of required paint ( thin and thick coat)
1 x lacquer (1K lacquer)

I used 2 coats of lacquer and polish as I wanted Gloss black

There are loads of these trims on sale on eBay going cheap , buy any colour and do an experiment

Let us know how to get on mate

First picture shows the gap trim I applied on the doors. It flow rather well with the OEM red stripe floor mats and red strip on the steering wheel.

Second picture shows the glossy CF vinyl on the center console, gear knob, and the door handle.

Third pic shows the next item on my list to 'redden'...the stitching on the steering wheel.

I did a quasi write up of changing the door panel accent stripe....very similar for the dash. The drivers side dash just clips in place, the passenger side is plastic welded...It is not very hard if you are not squeamish...drill out the "rivets" and then plastic weld them back in place...easy peasy.
