Matthew

Anyone else keeping an eye on this storm / preparing for it? I've got someone coming by tomorrow to put up shutters so I have until the morning to decide on them. I hope everyone stays safe!

Yes, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Hopefully Matthew does not move as far west as some of the models! Good luck!

I am very close to you Rick... depending on tomorrow's forecast around noon, it comes down to either bolting far away or sticking around... I am just going to give this one word of advice... if winds remotely approach 100MPH... get out of town immediately... I've lived through this before in the worst way possible.

The annoying thing after would be a loss of power and there is already trouble in getting gas.

+1....
Melbourne fl..... several gas stations empty of gas .... lucky to get last 2 propane tanks from Lowes.... last 8 gallons water from Walmart..... hotel booked in Tampa... just in case forecast track gets worse.

.....said to wife....." do you really want to be without power for 2-4 days with a 4 and 1 yr old kids???!"

Yup, they suck, especially losing power. We've been through three in this house (all more than 10 years ago), as well as Andrew when living in Miami (although far from the destruction zone).

Wise words. We went through this with Katrina and have evacuated from our dauphin island home for a few storms since then. A few years ago we were evacuated, were thinking about trying to stick it out until some people came and knocked on our door. They told us that if we were going to stay we both needed to write our social security numbers across our chests with a sharpie so our bodies could be identified if necessary. We left 30 minutes later.

An evacuation order is deadly serious. I know it's inconvenient and we're some tough SOB's around here but don't gamble with your lives. Stay safe guys.

Miami- got two gennys and 35 gallons in cans ready to go at my parents house.

Unfortunately I live in a condo and don't think the association is going to enjoy my little 2.5Kw running in my back yard area...
no garage means my 235 is at the weathers mercy too...

2) Run like hell

Gonna get real cozy around here so long as I don't have to be at the hospital. I just don't want the damn power to go out.

Looks like it'll brush up the east coast of FL, but it's a big storm. It'll pound the eastern half of the state.
