If you're one that tends to keep up with the latest technology, you might want to lease form now on so you can switch out to newer technology every 3 years. I just got hip to that as I started finding out just how much BMW changes things. This will be my first, but not my last, lease car.

I understand your experience and knowledge from the IT realm, but trying to justify this in a system integration testing setback is really, really silly. You should know better than that, this is primarily a hardware change. So you're saying they were able to test the hardware in the 5 series, 7 series, and another 3 series (the same car) but not 2 of the other versions of one of the models that's getting the change. Hah. I don't think so. BMW is really good at making money. Saving it plays a big role in this. I would sum it up to be a very poor marketing & visibility change for those affected (a handful of people who don't matter so much in the big picture). Sure, it dilutes the credibility BMW has earned to a handful of enthusiasts. Shrug.

No, Im sure they saved enough extra supply to replace our 12's and first 3 months 13's with the old system for when they break under warranty! Wouldnt want to have to swap to the new system after all! It might increase cost by .0001%

1. I've had voice command capability in every car I've owned since 2003 and I never use it. Turns out I don't need to talk to my car as hitting buttons is simply faster. 2. I don't need to text or email while I'm driving. That's why I have a telephone connected to Bluetooth. Turns out I use my voice to speak to people, not to speak to my air conditioner. 3. Navigation is important to me and the BMW nav is best-in-class as it is. They're not adding new streets where I travel and the resolution is fantastic. 4. The innovation that's coming is all app-side, not hardware-side. The more integrated and complex the in-car systems get the more closed they become. BMW is not interested in giving Apple an open door to their automotive OS. 5. Within a year I can get the new combox anyway, upgrade if there's really something that significant. BJ |
