Traffic info is superimposed over the map

I learnt this a while back. The colors on the Map show whether there is traffic or not.

Red means heavy traffic
Yellow means mild traffic
Green means you are good to go

Hopefully the picture comes out

What I dont like is the traffic color lines are off to the side of the road. Also traffic view changes the color of the display to a slightly darker one. Not sure why.

So you can more easily determine in which direction of travel there is traffic.

Not to burst bubbles but these features were available in the 2004 RL, it was a really nice Honda

They should just color the Lincoln Tunnel a permanent red, shouldn't they?

Someday I'll read through the Nav manual and figure out what half the features do.

I understand the green/yellow/red shading along the sides. But why are some roads permanently red down the center of the road, irrespective of the time of day and regardless of whether or not the border has a green/yellow/red shading.

Route 2, the major north-west highway out of Cambridge, shows as solid red between the prison circle and Acton. The borders of the road correctly change in concert with the rush hour traffic, but the center remains solid red at all times. This is in the main view not the separate traffic view.

I didn't like that too but there is two ways to do this, if you turn on the traffic map then you get the dark screen, but if you go and add "Traffic Flow" under the additional info menu then you will get normal navi colors with traffic flow lines.

I'm so happy I found that.

As I understand it if the road itself is a darker thicker red it indicates a major highway/freeway/road etc. Smaller/less ... "important" roads are thinner/yellow.

AWESOME! Thank you!

I wonder what the purpose for having Traffic Map and Traffic Flow options??? Or is this another BMW "feature" we paid extra for?

What's also cool is there's a feature called "alternate colors" which turns the map from the conventional pallet to a more modern one. And if you run it in Night Mode 24/7 as I do, it's very cool because it matches Coral Red and the black bits perfectly, it's all black/grey/red.

Yes! Or tear it down and start over again.

That would make sense except as you drive south east the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 and the road color changes from yellow to red. This is a 4 lane divided highway (2 lanes each direction).

The 45 mph section tends to back up during commuter hours, so I was thinking that perhaps the red is supposed to indicate "potential slow traffic" or "average slow traffic."

Attached: the not very good blurry image shows the 55mph yellow section at the upper left. The heavy red horizontal road is the 45mph continuation.

Google map of same area: http://bit.ly/1wqHqxL The road in question is route 2. The heavy red starts at Taylor road and continues east to the traffic circle and beyond.

I have noticed this and I have noticed solid red lines meaning traffic congestion while I am zippin down the highway at 80 mph and Vice versa- the Nav on the BMWs needs a higher res, easier to read, easier to enter data in upgrade BADLY- I feel it is only average and more and more cars will be judged on THIS (before they just drive themselves) and here is where I ding BMW/AUDI /MERC gone are the days where the car ride and drive ability rule- they are all getting hogogenized to one degree or another- but the NAV systems of all 3 are just average- nobody is great but many are better than BMW for far less money.

Aren't they tearing up the median along that part of Rt2? Maybe not all the way out to Acton, but definitely around where it crosses 128.

Yes, major reconstruction (~$ 60 million's worth) between 128 and crosby's corner where Rt2 makes a significant turn to the left at the bottom of the hill.

But headed west after Crosby's corner into Concord and Acton no significant construction - although there was a routine repaving a year or so ago. Conceivably that's it.
