It's quite a process. Make sure that your "notifications" for "mesages" on your iphone is set to show in the notification center and the "alert style" is "alerts". Also, "view in lock screen" is set to on. On your BMW, make sure you have office and iphone settings to show messages

I thought I had everything set and then I realized I forgot one thing. On your iPhone, go to settings -> bluetooth -> click the arrow on the right side of your BMW (to the right of where it says "not connected" or "connected" and in that menu there is a box that says "show notification" I had to turn that on and it worked fine to show my messages.

Now it works. I still can't get email to work but I have not tried the newest way of doing it which is to make sure that you open your mail client first before trying to show your email in the car.

If the above doesn't work, not sure what to tell you.

Thank you. I hat the wrong alert style, and now it works for text messages. Here's hoping an easier process for email support comes soon!

BMW Apps

I have just ordered (in June) a 328 GT and I was informed that my selection of "6NR BMW Apps" is no longer available from July production and later. Does anyone know why this is? What impact will it have on functionality?

I have the 6NH, 6WA and 601 (TV) options if that makes any difference.

Hi guys,

Im new here so tell me if im posting wrong etc.

I just got myself a 325i msport yesterday, and obviously want to play my music off my iphone 5.

Can anyone reccomend the best way for me to play my music and be able to to change song via the steering wheel/radio buttons. for now just using aux cable and the iphone itself, which isnt really safe/ideal.

FYI i dont have sat nag/screen etc. but do have USB and aux sockets.

Let me know any other deets you need.

thanks

iPhone 5 and BMW Y cable

I've separately tested the Y cable (my wife's iPhone 4 connects fine) and the apple adapter for data and media. I tried to update the car software from the BMW update site, but the software is up to date, as you'd expect for a 2 week old car.

So I'm a but concerned at how people seem to have used adaptors to connect their iPhone 5, whereas I seem to be experiencing a compatibility problem. The phone connects fine over Bluetooth.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Did you ever get this resolved? I have an '08 535i and I'd been using a BMW Y cable through the AUX in behind the center console and power by plugging in the USB part of the Y cable into a USB car power plug. This had been working fine. I just got an iPhone 5S and tried using a cheap Chinese made 30 pin to 8 pin adapter AND another adapter cable but none work. I still get power but music only comes from the iPhone speakers. Has anyone been able to get the Y cable to work with this kind of adapter? Thanks.

Original Apple adapter fixed it.

Just use your USB cable. No need to complicate things with adapters, etc. Just use the plug under your armrest

So no added benefits to using the snap in connector vs USB, the adapter is easily attainable but wondering if you will gain anything.

Well the snap in will allow video playback. Pending your parked or pending you coded the car. However it's a very expensive piece of plastic if you want my opinion. I have an iPhone 4 that I use because my iPod wouldn't work in the adapter. Then I checked for the iPhone 5/s and that media adapter had problems, and BMW was recalling the ones that hasn't been sold by their dealers. If you plug in the single USB cable, you will still do album art, playlist, bmw connect apps (pending you have the service), and charge your iPhone at the same time. Was there anything in particular you were looking to do?

Does the lightning adapter do video? I thought they dropped that feature when the 30-pin connector went away because the old 30-pin literally had component video output through the connector, which worked with the iDrive system. The lightning connector is straight digital.

I've never tried to the lightning cable with video... so I'd have to go out to the car and see - I just remember from BMW's list of what the snap in does - and the one thing that was different was the video... The snap in, IMO, is kind of useless for your phone... If you want it to do what I did, and that is add a iphone just as an ipod, then it's fine... but other than that, there is no real benefit.

Oh I was not referring to the bmw $300 adapter, was referencing the Apple $30 wire one. But it sounds like no differences vs. USB.

Oops yeah the y cable sucks and isn't needed. Matter of fact it doesn't work right in the F30. I noticed in coding that there were settings for the y cable and the support for this was coded off. So use your normal cable and you should be happy. I was like you when I for my car. So I know how it feels :-)

Yeah, video doesn't work with the iPhone 5 and up (lightning) according to the announcement:

Today I was talking to a colleague of mine about our new cars: I just got an F36 420d GC while he got an F32 425d.

The interesting thing is that I'm able to explore and listen to my iPhone music library either via bluetooth or the standard Apple cable (and in this case I also see albums' covers).

Instead, in my colleague cars we weren't able to do neither of those things... Basically, he cannot control the iPhone via the iDrive! On the plus side, he can see the historical of his consumption in the ECO Pro menu, which is not present in mine!

Note that we both have the same options: standard iDrive (i.e. no GPS) and standard bluetooth connectivity (6NH).

I was expecting the 2 cars to have exactly the same hardware and software, but it looks like this is not case (software version are different indeed...).
Anyone knows why? And if his software can be updated or is it a hardware issue?

CIC iDrive vehicles without the extended bluetooth package or technology package aren't supposed to have that ability to browse iPhones via bluetooth or USB cables.

Are you sure you don't have technology package or extended bluetooth?

Well, for sure I didn't order nor paid it

Checking on BMWArchiv.org, the data sheet reports only the S6NHA.
I guess the F36 is considered a 2014 (o 15?) model, while the F32 is one year older, so they changed the iDrive software, even if the production date are practically the same.

F36 (GC) may have different standard equipment.

So yours is a 2014 or 2015?
