Lightbulb 2012 BMW 328i VS 2011 BMW 528i

I was on the verge of buying a used 2011 528i with 2000 Miles on it for the same price of the 2012 328i. I felt that I needed to try the 328i before doing so and I did and the car to me drove far much better than the 528i! is it just me or do you guys agree? or maybe it's the twin power turbo?

When I was at a dealership a few months ago there was a couple test driving a 528 and a 328. They said the 328 drove much better and settled on it, so it's not just you.

I test drove both a couple of weeks ago and the 528 was painfully slow and unresponsive. that engine is not the right fit for the car. The 535 is different story though.

Depends on what you want to use the car for. The 528 is a good bit larger and would probably be better as a family hauler. If the car is just for commuting or fun then the 328 probably has the more "thrilling" driving experience. That said the 12 328i is bigger than previous years and is not uncomftorble moving a family with small kids in the back.

I've always hated the smallest engine 5. 525, 528... Just seems like a bad idea, how can the smaller engine in the 3 possibly be anything but disappointing in a much bigger, heavier car. I'm assuming they only offer it to allow a lower entry price to the 5. I wish they would stop lol. The new 5 is gorgeous but massive. N55 should be the base engine, like the X5.

Why do you wish they would stop? You don't have to drive it.

The 528 is only 200 lbs more than a F30 335, the weight of many a male passenger, hardly a debilitating amount of weight for the engine to address.

I would definitely prefer the 2011 528i 3.0L engine that gets almost the same EPA fuel economy as the 2012 328i (22/32 vs 22/33).

I can't live with the N20 at this level of price. And you come from a Passat V6 which is also a smooth engine.

I test drove both cars thouroughly and I have never thought that I would love a 4 Cylinders Engine!! The 328i drives like heaven, very powerful and amazingly more fun than the 5-Series! i'm going for it .... Anyone has any info about how reliable is the car and how much are the basic spare parts, I have had the Passat for 11 years!!!

Oh so your idea was already done. So be it. No way that the N20 is as entertaining as an average and above 6-cyl.
