My dilemma - What would you do?
Ok Chaps, the following may seem crazy to some and tbh it is a bit to me also but I'm in a dilemma about this all.
When I placed my order for the 335d I was advised my delivery would be 14/2/14. A lovely Valentines present to myself I thought but I'll wait for 1/3/14 as I would really like the 14 registration with it only being 2 weeks away. Now, my car was built 17/12/13 and is now showing delivery mid January! The dilemma I have is - do I take the car Mid January (if it arrives then) on a 63 plate with the knowledge within 6 weeks a new plate will be out, or do I wait out the extra 6 weeks without my car for the 14 plate. I don't know what the difference between 63/14 will be regarding residual values and it's also nice to have a brand new plate on the days it's released. My sensible head says, just take the bloody car and don't be so silly. My less sensible on says wait for 1/3/14. So, what would you do if it were you??? |

It would be a long 6 weeks, I would take the car. Then I am an impatient bugger.
You could always get yourself a personalised plate and you will never have to worry about it ever again |

Just take the bloody thing and enjoy it as soon as you can. Goodness knows what can happen to it whilst it is at the dealership for 6 weeks.

Stop it! Take the bloody thing. It could get damaged at the dealership just as NISFAN's car did.

Quite a few on here picking up on Saturday, and quite a bit of discussion about stalling until January. My view is to hell with any perceived or actual financial harm this may do. In the words of Noddy Holder "It's Christmaaaas!"
Your dilemma takes us into the sober world of the cold new year and I think you do indeed have a valid choice as a new reg is definitely a different kettle of fish. My own view is that given I do 25,000+ miles a year when it comes to selling, the biggest impact will be the taxi-like mileage. When it was registered will be less important so frankly, get the new car as soon as you can, then worry about value down the line (4 years in my case). Short answer - get it asap!

Get the car, don't risk leaving it in the dealer, it might get scratched if it's in their way, or left outside or something. The reg plate changes every 6 months now so it's not worth worrying about, mines now a 13 plate but it's still newer than most cars on the roads around my way so I'm not bothered.

Ok, let me put it this way. If you were in the market for a 335D in 2 years time.
One is a 2014/63 plate, has 20k miles and is £30000 One is a 2014/14 plate, has 20k miles and is £30500 Both cars exactly same spec and condition. Which would you buy? |

Also, may have be worth £500 less, but for that £500 you've enjoyed your new car 6 weeks earlier than expected.

There's a few variables to consider, if you are keeping it for a good few years the price difference wont be that big. Value will probably be more down to spec, mileage & condition. I would wait, but that's just me. |

The £500 difference was just a stab in the dark as I have no idea what the actual cost difference would be??? |

No one buys a new car and expects it to make a whole lot of financial sense - we just try and get it to make the most financial sense possible - In short take the car as soon as possible!!
