Extended Warranty

Has anybody purchased the extended warranty for the 335i? If so, what was the price you paid and what coverage did you purchase?

Thanks in advance

I got the 6 years / 100k platinum.

My price was discounted because the dealer screwed up my factory warranty registration and offered to extend mine to 5 year/100 k free.

I added an additional year for ~$600.

You'll need it due to the lack of BMW QC.

Keep the car for 3 years, no more. Then flog it before it falls to bits.

That's exactly why I extended it to 6 years...so far QC has been lacking.

I'll keep my heap for 2-3 years and then dump it. I'll be sick of it by then.

My AVERAGE car ownership experience is 9 years. Unless the car is utter crap that is my intent here as well. One of the problems with these warranties is that you don't know what dealer cost is so you don't know where the room to manuever is. That's the intent of the thread - if we can all see who paid what for what, then we get an idea what the price elasticity is.

Thanks for reading!

Why should you know dealer cost for the warranty? Be happy if you get a discount and move on. I don't know why people think dealerships are a free for all, give me everything at your cost. It's a bit tough to make a profit if you sell everything at cost.

Sorry for the venting but it gets annoying.

On every car I've ever bought, I've also paid for the extended (100k miles) warranty. On all my leases, I don't go past the factory 50k miles. I've never regretted doing this when I buy/lease.

Yeah, extended warranties are a must on German cars.

WOW, 9 years?!?!

Longest I've gone was 8 (Ford).
Shortest was Acura TSX (2 years; traded in for the F30).
Had the Evo VIII for 5 years, and was my biggest regret when trading in for the Acura...

I'm hoping the F30 will last 8 years, I'd like to get the updated 3-series after the first year has been sorted out....

^ Nice, didn't know you had an Evo VIII. I kept mine for 7 years. I'm planning on keeping this F30 until the next re-designed 3 series.

I currently have a 09 TSX, and thinking to upgrade to 328i xdrive. The tsx serves us really well so far, so I am a little bit hesitate to upgrade to BMW. How do you like your f30 compared to your traded TSX? Why did you regret on the trade-in of the TSX? Thanks.

Hey Benekci - I completely agree that we don't want the dealer to sell everything at cost. I am all about fair and reasonable. I just don't like paying 50% markup for things (like scotchguard or whatever). As with all add ons in the finance office, you need to make a value decision that works for you. I just want to go into the discussion armed. I know the dealer is....

NP with the vent. Happy New Years!

I'm handy with a wrench - part of the challenge with an older car is keeping it as sweet as the day you bought it (looks and mechanics). For me the financial incentive to keep the car (maximize value of the depreciation) is worth it. There's always something newer and cooler - even the day after you buy your car. I've learned not to always chase it - works for me.

Seriously? It boggles my mind that so many have this attitude. Do you realize how much money you would save by continuing to drive your car outside of warranty vs. buying a new car? Those savings will MORE than pay for any non-warranty expenses.

I think warrantydirect is good. Just make sure you get a good discount over their advertised prices.

I was on the fence about this car but definitely grabbing extended warranty and will keep it until the next model comes out. The upgrade/mod bug has taken over and its just too fun.
