I find the F30 interior a great place to be, the E90 has felt dated to me for a long while. The only place I find really cheapened is the felt liner of the door pockets, the E90 was completely lined while the F30 has much less.
I did experiment with the 3 different modes noted as well as going into D/S mode on the gear shift selector (lean it left). Still not a fan. But I guess that really was not my point. I suppose I could have worded previous posting different but I was not out to win any friends nor make enemies for that matter.

It's just my opinion and our right as US citizens to speak our mind- right or wrong.

BTW - I've read plenty of posts balder dashing the E9x 335 as well.

I don't see how that could possibly be the case. If nothing else, BMW does a very good job of ensuring that their cars are very consistent in feel regardless of the optioning level. The exception being the handling which can be varied depending on the suspension options one chooses. I say that based on my perceptions between my first BMW -- a 318i with only a sunroof and heated seats -- and its peers, and my current 335 -- leather and heated seats are the only options -- and my daughters fully loaded E91. I suspect one will feel differently depending on whether one has the aluminum trim or the wood trim, and how well one likes those two trim choices, but then one can have either with any BMW.

  • The OP noted the mechanical aspects of the car -- the motor and the transmission -- and they aren't going to change with the level of optioning.
  • He noted a concern about the star/stop feature. That will be the same regardless of how well equipped the car is.
  • The buttons and controls will be the same regardless of the options on the car.
  • The iDrive won't change with the level of optioning.
As for the "overall feel" the car, what's going to feel different? Leather seats maybe but I doubt it because the vinyl seats are just as nice and the vinyl is actually softer and more supple to the touch. Sure, if you have the dynamic handling, that would make the car's handling feel different, but it'll do nothing for the interior.

It's more complicated then that.

Many F30s come with low rolling resistance tires with names like "efficient grip". These tires drastically reduce feel, handling, lengthen stopping distances and yep, reduce steering feedback. The non M-Sport cars have low dust pads that also happen to reduce bite and confidence. The standard and Xdrive suspensions are softer than before, you used to be able to get away with no sports suspension, now it's almost mandatory. Even things like the weighted ZHP shift knob, softer-thicker rim steering wheel, even those little things improve the conversation between the car and driver.

Cars like the E36 and E46 did not have to be so focused on MPG to sacrifice performance with things like EPS and crap tires. So it's just not the same situation anymore.

IMO, OP is talking out of his ass. It is really not fair to judge that the barebones F30 sucks, it's a barebones for a reason, load it up with the DHP, M-Sport Pkg, and M performance pkg as well the tech package and tell us how it fells like.

Received a 335i base loaner today (I have 335i MSport 8AT). Interesting, the base 335 seems extremely sluggish compared to the 8AT. I did not believe it would be this noticeable.

I too have an 07 335i, now out of warranty. Can I ask how many miles you had to put on yours to get to the point where you needed to replace turbos and bushings? How much is all that going to cost?

Thought the turbos were going to last the service life of the vehicle?

And it may have be overdone, but I completely agree with your assessment of the F30 328. I had a loaded example sent home with me on a possible lease, I elected against it and am still in my 335, but worrying about having to do any major service on it so still looking.

Car and Driver prefers the 328 over the 335 if I remember correctly.

I accept your points, but I granted that handling feel could be different, although I wouldn't qualify that difference as being cheaper, and, yes, I didn't reference tires, and they certainly play into it. I mostly meant on the inside of the car, which I think is what the OP was getting at, though I could have misinterpreted him.

lots of things are different.
after being with my 335 for 2 weeks, I cannot stand the base line steering wheels & steering feel - they are just horrible.

and there're many other tiny things that ultimately make a loaded 3 series way better than a base model.

I think it was MotorTrend or CarAndDriver, they said 335 goes faster in straight lines and 328 faster in the corners. I was torn between both and chose the 328 when I realized I'm pushing my budget to the limit for a 328 as it is.

I like the fact f30 has more rear leg room space, and being first time bimmer owner, I have nothing to compare against anyway .
