335i Curt Hitch installed!

I don't pull a trailer often enough to get stuck in a truck. I just installed the curt hitch for the f30 and it fit flawlessly! The bumper came off after about 45 minutes and went back on in less time. The install of the hitch itself was extremely simple and I'm confident it'll be secure.

If anyone has questions about the install please feel free to ask. Tonight I'll be wiring the lights for the trailer. I'll post up where those tie into for future reference.

Here are a few pictures a video of my last car with a hitch that some of you may recognize A new turbo, some e85 and maybe I'll stomp on the 350z with this car

Nice install! Looks good. Which we could get this as an option like in Germany. They push a button, and the hidden hitch comes out like a turtle in the sun

Provided its already painted its not too difficult to take off, granted having a rack to put it up on makes the process substantially quicker/easier/less frustrating. Believe its just 8mm and 10mm socket to get it off there, but its been a while since I did mine. I've always had a rack available to me though I'd say if you have patience go for it, if not it shouldn't be too expensive to get a shop to install it.

Side note, cool hitch install!

What is the maximum toe capacity for the F30s? I've been contemplating this as well to pull a small boat however I don't know if the capacity would be there or not.

The UK manual lists the unbraked trailer limit at 745 kg for the 328i and 750 kg for the 335i. Comes to about 1,650 lbs. Tongue limit is 75kg, or 165 lbs.

Braked trailers are 1,700 or 1,800 kg for the 328i and 335i, respectively. Just under 4,000 lbs.

I would assume the same limits for the 328d as the 328i then

its only $80 to have a shop install it but if it only takes 45min why not do it myself and save me that 80! im worried im going to get lost half way through or break something

The euro 320d has similar numbers - which I think is generally the same as the North American 328d?? Braked trailer limit drops to 1,600 kg (3,700 lbs.). Unbraked stays the same at 745kg (1,642 lbs).

I've been towing with my 138 HP / 138 ft-lb E36 318ti for many years. I keep it to 1,500 lbs total and 165 lbs on the tongue and its a breeze. Barely affects acceleration at all. As the manufacturers limits suggest, towing is generally limited by the braking ability of the car. I can feel the weight more in braking than accelerating. Need a little more pedal pressure to stop.

It was really easy taking the bumper off. Its a two person job to make sure you don't scuff it up though. Its not bad at all though, I'd do it myself.

The hitch paperwork said its rated for 2000lbs. The car pulls the trailer with about 800-900lbs with ease. The braking isn't affected. How much more weight can it pull? I'd guess double or triple. My concern would be the weight being put on the rear axle. My car dropped about 1/4-1/2" hooked up.

I'm sure theres an instructional video or manual somewhere online on how to do it. Plus you learn how to take the bumper off Best of luck and I'm interested to see how it turns out!

I'm looking to put one on my F34 and I'm running into conflicting information about the wiring. Interested to see how your wiring goes. Did you use a set of instructions to remove the rear bumper? I'm looking at the curtis hitch as well.

How much weight would guess that the hitch receiver adds to the car versus stock parts?

I haven't had a chance to do it yet, I'll post up as soon as i do. I used the install guide on curt's website. It wasn't perfect, but it helped a lot. The hitch is sold for a 328, but it fits the 335. The install guide was made for a 328, just a few minor differences like the size of the bolts//nuts and the amount of them on the trim, bumper etc.

I didn't weight it, but i doubt its more than 30-40 pounds. The design is very simple so it couldn't weight any less without comprising quality. You retain the stock factory bumper with no modifications. Keep in mind its also putting weight in the best place possible on a car.

According to their website it weighs roughly 23-1/2 pounds, takes 45 minutes to install and costs $255

Rednecks here in Georgia have their jacked-up trucks with obnoxious trailer hitch covers. I can join the club now!

E trailer has it for $145 shipped. 45 minutes if you've removed the bumper before. It took me a bit longer from being extra cautious.

Did you have to remove the heat shield permanently or require any cutting of parts to make clearance?
