This is good info, I'm going to unplug the wire on my M Performace Exhaust tonight.. It's just sitting in the garage waiting for the new car to arrive.

I should probably wrap that loose wire with electrical tape? Maybe that will melt off.

It's really a loose 'plug' so no wires are actually exposed. I just tied mine up so it wouldn't dangle. I think I used a little piece of metal wire but a zip tie would've done the trick too.

I've heard people say they "think" shadow codes are thrown but have you actually seen them or heard first hand from someone with an F30 having them? Could just be speculation.

Regardless, I can't see any issue with an unplugged actuator as far as damage to your car. It's only function is to keep the car quiet from what I understand.

Like you I have just read about these shadow codes being thrown. No hard evidence. Agreed it is a very low low risk mod. If you can stand the drone give it a go. Makes daily driving sound way louder.

If you are referring to sound, then yes I thought it made a huge difference. I really really liked the sound for daily driving around town. But as soon as we went on a road trip the drone was really bad at a constant highway speed for several hundred miles.

I have noticed that for the most part the Sport + option seems to open the exhaust as well at lower speeds. But no drone in Sport + setting which is good.

Nice! I agree, exhaust drone on a long trip can be annoying.

I'll have to try it out and see if I can stand it.

yeah, give it a shot. either way you mod it (pull the plug or remove the U shaped spring and wire the flap open) it is easily reversible.

you will get a cel with any downpipe (catted or catless). Just a matter of when it triggers. Could be few hundred miles or even thousands.

I was considering the Borla S-Type catback for my 335i....but this cheap "unplug" sounds pretty tempting instead. Am I crazy for going with the Borla over this cheap mod?

why don't you go for a downpipe first? I'm the type of person that likes a nice subtle, but louder exhaust note. I think first handedly the downpipe can achieve that. I'll post up some videos when I get my downpipe installed.
