Winter Tires - 2014 328d xDrive M-Sport

I tried posting this in Keith's sticky above as well...

I have a (new to me) 2014 328d xDrive with the M-Sport package. My all-season tires are Goodyear 225/45ZR18 on the M wheels (I think I have the "blue" brakes people talk about). Pic attached...

Which of the following would you recommend (both on different factory BMW wheels with TPMS)?

Nexen Winguard Sport
235/40R18
(on 2009 3-series sport wheels)

Pirelli Sottozero Winter 210
225/45R17
(on 7-spoke BMW wheels)

Similar price and minimal wear on both.

Thanks,
Mike

PS- I live in northern Utah. They plow, but I occasionally have to drive on neighborhood roads (or even the interstate) with several inches of snow if the plows are busy (e.g. it's snowing really hard). Thanks!

PPS- Will the speedometer calibrate itself automatically (for the slightly smaller winter tires)?
