Upgrade from an E90?

Hey brothers,

I currently drive an e90 and was thinking of upgrading to an f30. Anyone here do the same? And if so, are you glad you did or are there any regrets?

I know there have been previous posts on this but thought I'd start a new one. Looking to see what I can expect as far as common issues and headaches with owning an F30

i liked my e92, i'm not a fan or electric steering too soft even in comfort, it's stiff only in sport mode but i don't like using extra gas just to have it stiffer x)

if you plan to upgrade think of what you really need , my e92 was fully loaded this one is base because i can customize it .

My 2011 e90 335 msport was totalled on April fools day.

Replaced it with a 2013 f30 335 msport

I do miss the steering of my e90 but m adaptive suspension in my f30 does a decent job at replicating the feeling. Other than that, no regrets at all. Bigger more comfortable car. And the interior is a huge improvement over the e90.

I've only have my f30 for just over a month but within the same timeframe of ownership, my f30 is more reliable than my e90

Went from E90 330i to F30 335 and every single thing is better (ok steering could be slightly better). Do it and don't look back

I had E90s before and I'm on my 2nd F30. F30's are a lot more reliable. I drove my other F30 over 50k miles with no hiccups.

Had an e90 now f30
For the first month i missed the hydraulic steering. Now 6 months later, i drove an e90 and felt the steering very heavy. It's just an habbit.

Overall i like my f30 and don't really miss my e90 exept for the inline 6 exhaust sound vs n20

Went from E91 to F30 LCI 340i xDrive. The new 340 is way better car.

E90 335 -> F30 340

I had buyers remorse the first couple weeks. I now realize how foolish that was.

e92 sport package to F32 M-sport. For me, the F32 wins in everything except steering feel. BUT... the F32's steering is still quite good, just not great. Also, as noted above the F3x seem to be much more reliable. 52K miles and only 2 very small issues with my F32. By 50K miles my e92 had over $4,000 worth of mechanical warranty work performed and the interior was literally falling apart/flaking off.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm looking at a grey 328i sedan.

No expensive issues at all with the F30's for you guys?

In all honesty you can ask everyone about whether they have expensive issues or not. But you never know what you're going to get into... My e90 had basically an engine rebuild to replace the cylinder head and a couple pistons. I'd consider that an expensive issue but also a rare issue. I think the more important thing is in general whether a car is reliable and as noted before, it seems to be more reliable overall

Not trying to dismiss your question, just saying that I think overall reliability is more important than one-off issues

Agree with this. Went from BS Black interior 335i to BS CR interior 335i. Huge difference.

You can set power and suspension (including steering) separately. Sport mode can have suspension setting but power remain at comfort level. Sport+ will have both power and suspension in Sport.

Moved from 2007 E92 335i to 2013 F30 335i and never regretted it. Everything is better - comfort/room, fuel mileage, programmable driving modes...the list goes on. Much has been said about the electrically-assisted steering in the F3x cars, but it didn't feel that much different to me. The components weigh less than those in the E9x cars and there's one less pump, hoses, and reservoir to be concerned about.

I went from E90 328 to E90 335 and now to F30 328 Msport. I miss the extra kick from the power of the 335, but the F30 328 isn't too far off. Plus its nice that it's bigger and looks more aggressive...and I certainly don't miss the extra $300 a month I was paying in speeding tickets with the 335, you just can't not speed in that car, lol. As everyone else said, steering is def not as stiff, but it's actually something you will appreciate after having the F30 for a bit...

From a 2008 E92 335i which I owned for 6.5 years ---> 2014 F32 435i.

Only thing I kinda miss is the steering from the E92, but you will get used to push start, move switch to "sport" and go.

You will hate the electronic steering at first and maybe have 2nd doubts about your purchase but eventually get used to the steering in a few weeks.

I've said this dozens of times, but I'll keep preaching: As a current owner of both an E90 330i and an F30 335i (both Sport/MSport setups and both manuals), the F30 is superior in nearly every aspect EXCEPT driving dynamics.
