Just test drove a 2018 S4. My god that thing sounds glorious even stock. The blip on downshifts is crazy sexy! And the seat stitching is always top notch. The diamond stitching is beautiful. But I feel I would still opt for the zippy BMW vs the sturdy Quattro.

For those who mentioned the Tesla Model X - that's a big NO. As amazing as they may be performance wise, in terms of fit, finish, and reliability - not so much. QC issues all over the place, and that's across the S, X, and 3.
As for those who mentioned 7-passenger SUVs - I went with a Dodge Durango RT for that. 7 passenger, basically a badged-down Merc GLS 450. And with the SRT version now available, it's like getting an AMG GLS 63 for half the price. Been very happy with mine, my only gripe is the audio but while not a full audiophile I'm just not a fan of the Beats brand in general. I was shopping for a lightly used 435 while I was still in college a couple years ago. Graduated now and my debate is between buying a townhouse / condo or a BMW. Pricing in the bay area is insane though so I'm thinking if I can't get into a house anytime soon I might as well buy a shiny new toy to enjoy my commuting in. So I'm looking at 440s now or maybe even a used M4. Keep the Durango for those Tahoe snowboarding trips and Santa Cruz surfing days, or any time I'm giving friends a ride somewhere en masse, use the BMW for the golf outings and work and everything else. I also have a motorcycle for when I don't feel like sitting in traffic but these days I'm calling in to meetings while on the road so I actually don't really mind the traffic as much anymore. No rush to be at work when I'm working from the car so...why not right? |

If the G20 M340i is available with a manual, then that's it, but it looks like no more manuals for the 3er. M2/3/4 or defect to Porsche.
I'm one of those Manual Gearbox Preservation Society throwbacks despite knee and heel issues. It only hurts getting in/out, once I'm seated it's fine. https://thecurbshop.com/collections/tmgps

Off-topic, but genuinely curious: what's your definition of "set for life"?

Retirement varies by location. I'll have to accumulate a hell of a lot more than I have now if I want to retire in California vs Montana vs Switzerland vs Mexico for example. Might as well enjoy a few things along the way cause I'll be working for a few decades to come.

Ive seen a couple of brand new Camaro on the road over the last week or two and for some reason they have caught my eye.
Not really a fan of modern American "muscle" cars, but there is something about this one that has me at least considering a test drive, just haven't yet figured out why.

That's sound advice. Agreed with the investing bit - one of the smartest things an individual can do is either invest money or put it aside for a rainy day. It's unfortunate that high-schools and colleges / universities here don't actually teach you basic life skills, like how to do your taxes, how to get a mortgage, how to negotiate, how to build a sound personal financial plan, etc.

Either way, agreed, you have to pay to play. Everything is back on the table at this point though. Anyone have any experience with the Audi e-tron or the new e-Golf? It would be interesting to get a cool car that also isn't super thirsty at the pumps. We pay about $4.50 USD per gallon at the pumps here in Toronto for premium gas |

Shopping for wife now. She's been in a new Honda Odyssey every 3 years since 2003. Kids are older so she's wanting either SUV/Sedan. At this early stage;
430i MSport ES350 FSport (7th gen debut this summer) GS350 FSport Macan All optioned in the 50-60k range. Would love some opinions. Even snarky are welcome. Looks, performance, comfort, reliability will vary among those 4 but she's just starting the research process. |

If you don't want to buy your car outright, you can always extend your lease (I believe for like six months) if you have another BMW on order. That should give you plenty of time for the M340i to come out (and I believe the M550i is a ways away from LCI).

Yeah, V8 all the way...I was doing some research on these over the weekend and was surprised to see how expensive they can become when properly optioned. When mentioning this idea to my wife, she said she doesn't see me as a Camaro guy...whatever the hell that means. So who knows if this will go anywhere.
