NBT Upgrade to NBT EVO ID6 - HELP!
Hi
Just purchased a 2013 428i M-Sport. It currently has the NBT ID4 with the large screen. I'm looking to upgrade to the latest NBT EVO with ID6 and just wanted to know aside from the headunit, idrive controller and coding, is there anything else that i need? Thanks |

Controller is not needed since you can use the nbt id4 controller.
What’s more important is the screen since nbt is apex1. You can either buy apex2 screen or buy a voltage converter cable if you want to use your existing screen. Also you need to splice your quadlock and use oabr to do coding and programming on your nbt evo unit in order to do it properly. I sell the oabr connector |

To check if your car has atm is by opening the trunk and check the trunk fuse box. If there is only fuse box, then no need atm, but if there is another box next to the fuse box, then you may need atm.
Otherwise if your car doesn’t have atm module, then you need to buy nbt evo with blue gps port behind the evo unit so you can use bmw navigation. This nbt evo unit is hard to find. However if you don’t care about bmw navigation and only use waze, google map or apple map from carplay, then you can buy evo unit without gos port. This unit is easier to find and cheaper than unit with gps blue port |

There were no ATMs in 2013 vehicles such as the owner has. There were TCBs which look almost identical and are also in the trunk beside the fuse box where the TCU unit sits, not matter if TCB/ATM or whatever The OP is correct. He needs an ATM or GPS hack to use OEM GPS on a HW 4.x ID6 unit. Furthermore, most 2013 vehicles drive controller are on K-CAN and not K-CAN2 as the 2014 and higher F series are, so a new idrive controller AND REWIRING for it is a good possibility. |

BMW didn’t use it for only 1 year. They used it for years prior to the change mid-2014. KCAN is a lower capacity network than newer KCAN-2/KCAN-4. A higher bitrate for more data was needed for 2014 letter handwriting recognition in the top of the controller and other newer options in the NBT units. The early NBT units did not have the letter recognition and were on K-CAN as were the earlier CIC units.
