Wife wants red calipers!

For xmas, she has requested red calipers. Ive seen the covers, they look ok, but for $200... seems pricey for some tin. I wont do the ebay plastic ones, although they look good!

What would be the least expensive way to bolt on red calipers? Are there cheap aftermarket bolt on kits that work with stock rotors? She will never drive the car hard, no tracking etc. she just wants red.

I may end up painting them, but Id rather spend a bit more and bolt them on and bleed. Btw, is bleeding a pita for this car, or is it like any other - push pedal, crack valve, fill resevoir, etc.

Thanks.

You could buy a used set of regular calipers and have them powder coated...then try and sell the ones you have. I was quoted I think $250-300 to have brakes powder coated. I got a powder coat kit for my birthday...So I am going to try this soon and see how I do...

You can paint them, there's lots of youtube videos how, or you can just buy new calipers in red. Google it, there's more than a few.

All of the red ones I've seen are like 2K. Is there a less expensive bolt on option?

Probably. Try asking in the appropriate forum. You're in the F34 section. If you've got an F34 you should update your profile.

IMO nothing looks more chinzy (sp?) than painted sliding calipers.

Agree... except BMW does this on the rears of a lot of M cars. No idea why

Look up VViViD Vinyl, they have vinyl wrap which can withstand heat from calipers; they call it Enamel Caliper Wrap. It's a DIY but it'll cost you less than $100 and some know how

I learned wrapping stuff myself, it's not very difficult, just takes a bit of time to get it right. I've done interior in my old car, I've done both my kidney grills and spoiler on my 340i as well. Make sure you get a heat gun; you can get one for $10-$15 bucks... better than using a hair drier to do vinyl wrapping.

Good luck!
