Living in Oregon, Buying from Cali. Easy?

I'm moving to Oregon in 2 weeks and am looking to pick up a new car and NOT pay Cali tax.

I normally work my a couple of SoCal dealers, but it seems to be a PITA to buy a car when residing out of state. One dealer says the car can't be driven in California or I'll be charged tax which results in a $1,200 shipping fee. That's not helpful.

I know BMW David @ Steve Thomas does this all the time, but I haven't heard back.

Am I stick either A) buying in Oregon or B) having a car shipped from Cali

Any experiences would be helpful!

Thanks,
Matt

It's my understanding that state tax will be paid based on where the car will be driven / garaged. Nothing but good things from David @ Steve Thomas BMW. 1,200 is a steep quote to get the car from Cali to OR. Good luck

Just picked up 3-series from Oregon yesterday. This was out of state deal as I live in Seattle.

Finalized deal on 09/30 but couldn't pick up due to work. Call David, he is board sponsor on other bimmer forum as well. No BS, no drama, straight transparent deal. I usually calculate my own numbers based on total cap cost. His numbers were matching to cents to my numbers.

Ping David at BMW Portland. You will be happy. This is my 2nd Out of state deal. I don't even call WA state dealers. They are jokers.

What he says. Just inked my deal with David for a 2016 wagon. Easiest car deal I've ever had. Two emails and ten minutes in the dealership. No BS. Seriously.
