Car Park Incompetence

Some bell end crashed into my car over the weekend! No sign of anyone when I returned to my car, only a massive scrape down the side.

It's not even a little scratch it's a full on crash, how can someone misjudge parking by so much!?

Anyway, I suspect it need a new wing and door respray, any suggestions on the most cost efficient way of doing this?

If it was me I'd be using my insurer and getting it into a BMW approved bodyshop. That won't be cheap. But you have an expectation that the results are perfect

500 excess so they'll only pay anything over that, plus I'll lose my no claims. So not really an option (unless repair is going to be towards 1000).

Sadly it will be much more than that!

Really? FFS!

I had in my head probs 200 for a wing, labour and respray 400?

Maybe being optimistic then. Going to local body shop later.

I suspect a wing fitted and painted and a door filled and painted will definitely be nearer 1k than 500, i'd expect it to be over that to be honest. Looks like they've hit pretty well so it might be that the inner wing needs some manipulation as well. Thats going to sting the wallet a little....

Lol you're pulling my leg!

I can buy a wing online now for 150 and fit it myself, how hard can it be!?

Then just labour for the respray.

I won't be spending 1000 on it, I will literally take it BMW and swap it for something else lol. They'll want to sell me a car and will do the repair at cost for them to make a margin on reselling it.

Only had it 6 months, time for a new car anyway ha ha (tongue in cheek).

Some woman drove into the side of me and I needed two new doors and the repair bill was 6k with a BMW bodyshop, I saw the invoice to her insurers!

Jesus that's mental.

I won't be taking it to BMW I'm going to head round to local body shop this afternoon to see what they say.

I've no idea who hit me so insurance claim can't happen. I'll either fork out for it to be repaired if it's cost effective to do so, or I will be seeing what BMW will offer as a trade in.

I had damage less than that after some kind soul ran into mine in Belgium. Insurance cost was beyond 3.5k. 400 is, um, somewhat optimistic!

do you not have your no claims protected? For the price, its definitely worth it for things like this.

I've never bothered with protected NCB because in 15 years of driving I've never claimed. So to pay a premium to protect them (when they're not actually fully protected) doesn't attract me.

Same as I've always opted for a higher excess to get premiums down too.

Yet thats what insurance is for so an extra 50 isnt going to make much difference. Think of it as an insurance on your no claims disount.

Sure, I know what you mean.

I'm sure I saw a table somewhere that highlighted how PNCB and each time you claim it slides down so you lose some (but not all) of your NCB.

So you end up paying extra on your premium (even though you may never claim) and then lose some NCB if you do claim anyway.

Just personal preference. I guess any savings I'll have made over 15 years I'll have to fork out on repairs now!

Swings and roundabouts.

Ouch. It always seems to happen in the first 6 months of ownership!
Awful. I hope you find a "reasonably priced" outcome"
