Hey Americans, there are other people in this world too. Most of them are using the Android platform. Stop being so ignorant, you're just embarrassing yourselves...further.
Ignorant? LOL. I remember the first time I believed numbers that were written in a satire - or maybe I was educated enough to realize the difference between a satire and a real study

Fact. It's cheaper to write your own operating system for your own phone than to use Android
Sub-Fact. An in-house operating system will be better and more popular anyways
Fact. Filling up with diesel instead of gasoline will give you more horsepower and torque
Fact. 100% of the facts on the internet are correct 100% of the time
Fact. iPhones aren't sold in a large number of countries (For instance China Mobile just picked up the iphone a few weeks ago - this one is actually a fact)

Where the hell did you get your marketshare numbers anyways? They're off... way the hell off

Yes, we should all just develop our own phone OS...that would make things easier. This is one of the most asinine and illogical comments I have ever read. "R" "E" "A" "D" You should try it sometime.

...well that is 8 - and from such disreputable sources as Gartner, Cnet and even your own Washington Post ...should I keep going? Because I can, but I think we all get the point.

Please stop trying to tell everyone how smart you think you are...you're only going to hurt yourself...oh and nobody cares. I will not be wasting any more of my time on you. Now please be quiet and try not to break your crayons.

To the OP of this thread, I agree that the ANDROID support on the BMW in it's current iteration is at the very least more complicated that it needs to be given the overwhelmingly superior market share the platform currently enjoys. Personally, I have both an iPhone 5 and a Samsung Galaxy S4 and while I can say that iOS is better at some applications and Android is better at others, currently if you want to utilize the most features from your smartphone through your BMW iDrive with the least amount of fuss...iOS is the way to go...for now. Let's hope the engineers responsible for this part of the car are also reading the FACTS above.

Nothing wrong with having 2-3 OSes out at the same time, this is competition. Dozens of OSes... Not so much. Any OS below the top 2-3 most used will become a niche OS used by only a few people with no vendor support.

But vendors can't ignore the top 2-3. Android is in the top 2-3. And BMW is ignoring it.

As Apple is now going south with no innovation since the death of Steve Jobs, and due to the bean counters now in charge of that company, I'm pretty confident that Android will gain even more market share and will not be ignored by BMW for long. It's just a matter of time.

Everyone go anticipate your next iPhone 4.3... I mean 6.

You clearly missed the sarcasm in my post about the "facts"... I thought that "Fact. Filling up with diesel instead of gasoline will give you more horsepower and torque" would help out, but guess not

It looks like you're trying to hide your misinformation on the subject behind the sarcasm? LOL

Since this is I'm not replying after this because I don't have to deal with morons on a forum, I deal with enough at work

Yeah, the Android app works for MY14, not MY13 or MY12 - how crazy! iPhone has 40-42% market share in the US depending on the source - Nielsen says 41%. The 68% number comes from this analyst and his model for when the market is nearly fully saturated in 2017.

Who would seriously think that putting diesel in a petrol car makes sense

You are hopeless, sorry.

BTW, putting diesel in a petrol car converts it into a diesel car!

Reviving this dinosaur just to say I am so supremely disappointed about the lack of Android integration. I had a 3 series with the tech package back in 2012-2013 and was annoyed then but just bought an iPod to leave in there and made do. Nowadays the cloud is where all music is (I use Google Play Music) and don't have to manually keep a device synced and so the lack of integration is unbelievable for the so called "premium bluetooth." I am in rental cars quite a bit and all the Toyotas, Fords, and Hyundais have seamless BT with album art and full functions yet my $52k BMW does not?

Going to have to actually cross shop next time.

Wrong, it could break the petrol engine.

As a Windows Phone User (yes, I'm the one ) it's quite interesting following this conversation.

Hopefully in a short time, Mobile Web App approach will solve the whole Mobile OS discussion. Dedicated Apps are for many cases obsolete as the Mobile Browser can handle all the functions in a look and feel like a dedicated App.

In Europe Android has 68% and iOS 29% of the market.
Looking at BMW owners only, overall iOS share is probably much higher than Android. Until now.
I'm sure BMW has done it's customer analysis quite well and they know pretty much where to focus.

ScarecrowBoat,
+1. The ConnectedDrive App on my Android phone has gone from bad to worse! The original App (which they now call "Classic") at least allowed me to view my calendar on the iDrive and always connected when I plugged my phone into either the USB or adapter. With their latest version of the App:
  • Still no calendar
  • Connects to my car less than 0ne of three times
  • Makes "trips" out of the dumbest calendar entries -- like Holidays or my reminders
  • Gives you tie in to a few Apps
When you call the BMW Genius 800 number, all you get is a somewhat courteous non-answer -- one of the worst help lines going!

All of this with the latest update (a week or ago)

Good luck to you gentleman but you're pulling out right when they updated iDrive. LMAO! Plus there are aftermarket options at reasonable costs! Guess I've been there and done that with cross shopping and ended up HERE! Am I overjoyed by it? No but try using Cadillac CUE then tell me iDrive integration sucks! I got Pandora and nothing else with CUE (now they added mirroring support but nothing else, plus no update for existing users) which only worked 1 out of 10 times. I got so pissed, I had them replace the entire unit only to find out it was a software bug. iDrive is gold compared to others out there.

Sorry, but there is zero excuse. They could overnight have 2 programmers work on it and fix it yet they don't. I'll look elsewhere until they take it seriously. The integration I have with our company 2014 Camry Hybrid that doesn't even have nav is easier to use and more reliable, that's a joke. I could have bought two of those!
