My car has arrived. It came to the dealership yesterday afternoon. I saw the car today in the service department and it looks very nice. I won't take possession of the car until the clear bra is applied some time next week. So, the earliest I am anticipating picking it up will be next Saturday, June 21st. I can't wait.

seems like some of our cars didn't clear customs until Thurs 6/12; your car was obviously already en route to IL then. just trying to figure out some of their logistics. thanks. can't wait to see mine. just curious, how much of the car are you covering w/ clear bra? does it affect paint care, like claying and waxing/polishing? seems like you'd be waxing the CB instead of the paint.

Regarding the clear bra, I plan to have the entire front fascia, the entire hood, the front fenders (basically the front clip), the mirror caps, and the rocker panels covered. I talked this over with the president of the local BMW club and he swears by the clear bra and has it had it on all of his BMWs. There is a place in St. Louis that he highly recommends and is the only place that he will let touch his car for this kind of work. He showed me his BMW with the clear bra and I couldn't see the lines. The car looked like a brand new car. He said you can wax it just like it is clear coat, but you do have to be a little more careful when cleaning it. He has not had it yellow, bubble, or had any kinds of problems with it. He suggested covering 100% of a particular body panel instead of doing bits and pieces. For example, he said some people like to cover half the hood, but that leaves a wax line and if removed will show a slight difference (over time) between the covered and uncovered half. He figures covering all of the hood (as well as the whole front, etc...) will prevent problems further down the road. I agree with the logic behind such a move and plan on doing the same thing. The only thing that might disrupt my plan is the price tag. I don't know what that will be yet. I should know in the next couple of days and then I can decide to go all in or cut out certain pieces. The car still needs to be scheduled with the clear bra place, so I don't think I'll take possession of the car until next Saturday at the earliest anyway. And that is fine by me.

My cousin works at the dealership and he sent me pictures as soon as it got off the truck. He said the shop is closed on the weekends, but on Monday they have to take it out of transport mode and test drive it make sure everything is good on it. Also, they are installing M Performance exhaust for me as well. Looks like Tuesday for pick up for me. |

Burlington, Vermont. It's a pretty straight trip from the MD port up a few highways and one long ass back road.

Didn't one of the FAQs state that if there were any issues from shipping that it was fixed before being released? I mean, it's not a BMW owned shipping line, so I don't know how complex the shipping, customs, BMW signoff, trucking process is, but I'm pretty sure they want to make sure everything is "just so" before moving it along. Waiting DOES suck though. |
