opti-coat, worth to do?

Can anyone share your experience with this opti-coat? Does it worth the price? How much you paid to hire someone to do it? Thanks.

Highly recommend it. I had it applied 2 days after I took possession of my car. It's like looking in a mirror. If you decide to have it done, PM me and I will send you the information of the guy I used. He came to my place. Another member used him as well and both of us highly recommend him.

Highly recommend it. I got it done the day after I got my car. Cost me $400 up here in Toronto with polish. Washing the car is a breeze and it looks amazing after opti coat.

Thanks for the reply. Another question is is it just for the look or it actually can protect the painting against small rocks on the road?

It does not protect against rocks.

im considering it as well, but if I wax my car every 3-6 months I dont really see the point as my paint will still be protected.

I'm doing it as soon as the dealership fixes the chip damage on my bumper(damaged before delivery)

I'm also considering clear bra...it's way more expensive but it does protect the car from flying little rocks on the highway...

Yes, opti coat is worth it as it would show lesser swirls than your current clear coat which is soft.

It's totally worth the $60 purchase price but some detailers charge a HUGE amount to apply it.

You could do it yourself...

I paid a detailer to apply my OptiCoat since I was afraid to F something up, it being advertised as permanent and all. You get enough of the product to cover at least a couple of cars though, so I had plenty left over. I looked around for uses for it and ended up OptiCoating my glass shower stall and my skis. Then I realized exactly how easy it is to apply and coated my car headlights, side view mirrors, sunroof, and then my bicycle. I then started to apply it to my wife's 6 year old car, but bailed on that project since her car already shows wear and tear and I didn't want to waste the rest of the OC.

On the next car I get I will do the OC myself. It's really quite easy, and there's not a lot to go wrong as long as you do a small area at a time and have good lighting.

To get the feel for it, you could try coating a small, indirectly visible part of your car such as the rocker panel behind the rear wheels, or inside the door jamb where you only see it when the door's open. When you get more comfortable with it you could move to the top of the roof where no one really gets a direct look at it. By then you'll probably feel so comfortable applying it that you could move to the larger panels.

There's not a whole lot that can go wrong, and if it does you may have a slightly thicker spot that shows up under very close scrutiny but would disappear on a daily driver.

Got mine done 1 week after I had the car. It supposed to last 2-3 years. I had both my summer and winters done, so brake dust is not really an issue for me.

Would you guys recommend doing it on a lease? Or should I just get the 3m on the bumpers?

I know that small stuff is part of normal wear & tear and though it's leased I like my car to stay looking new.

On a leased car that I knew I would be returning I wouldn't do it (nor would I do the Clear Bra for that matter).

if its a lease, no point investing too much

if you were to opticoat, get it 1 stage polished and detailed (by a detailer) and opticoat yourself

Then Opti coat might be worth the expense to you. $60 is really pretty minimal for the amount of protection it gives. I still don't think I would spring for the $500 plus for clear bra.

Stage 1 polish & detail? This needed even if brand new?
