It seems to be only 335 owners in this thread with problems. I haven't been able to get my 328i to stall, I even tried to and it wouldn't.

Do any 328i owners have the problem?

If this is indeed the case, then it is probably nothing more but a re-education needed for drivers to get used to it imo. I mean, do you hit the gas pedal as soon as you start your car the first time of the drive, or do you wait a second or two before actually taking off from parked position because you still have to shift to D?
Thought about the same thing and tested your theory this morning on the way to work and each time it started just fine.

Your are right but he shouted while he was leaving and I wasn't in the mood to go after him and tell him that I've driven stick shift more than his age and few more other things.

I can't get my 328i to stall either for the life of me (sports trans). Maybe it's specific to 335i's?

I doubt it would have done any good anyways, usually there's no talking with that kind of people

BMW service called and it's ready for pick up. they stated that a software update was performed which should fix the problem. I asked if this sw update includes a specific fix for this specific issue and the service guy said an unconvincing uh yes. Picking it up today and will report on if the issue persists.

Seriously though, this should be recall worthy. When I explained this issue to the service guy he was very surprised I was experiencing this issue. WTF I don't care if it's someone else's fault for rear ending me... Despite getting medical compensation I don't want my baby to be rear ended!!!!

I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow to have it checked. Hate this feature.
That sucks.

But, that guy who hit you, HE needs to learn how to drive.
HE is responsible to be in control of his car at all times.
You can't control what his car does.

I wonder if this software update is only being advised for F30 335i? It seems that the majority of those that have posted issues are dealing with the 335 instead of the 328. It would be good information to know what the software update specifically addressed. Anyone know how to get this info?

Today I took my 335i in and got told that the error hasn't been being logged and they can't reproduce it. It being Australia, i suspect the software update is months away (if there is one that fixes it).

So i've been asked to take it back and to let them know if it happens again - <sarcasm>hmmm great solution</sarcasm>.

From the "other" forum.
BMW has issued a technical service bulletin for the stop / start (MSA system). The problem is only related to F30 335i 3 series powered by the N55 inline six cylinder engine. The problem is that the engine will be stopped and started correctly by the stop/start MSA system, however, after the restart the engine will again shut off unexpectedly. The system will display a message to the driver that the stop/start feature has been disabled and the transmission (automatic) is put into neutral automatically.

The engine can be started manually by the driver after this has happened using the start button. This happens intermittent making this very frustrating to drivers and hard for technicians to diagnose. Furthermore the is no relevant errors logged into the ECU fault system.

BMW cites an 'unfavorable DME software application' as the source of the issue for cars produced between 11/2/2011 and 2/29/2012. To the automotive enthusiasts that loosely translates to "we screw up". BMW is owning up to the issue by issuing service bulletin 10 12 00 09 00. Everyone with a 2012 F30 3 series is of course covered under the warranty so besides the hassle of getting your 3 series recoded at the dealership it is an easy fix.
