BMW warranty letter

Has anyone ever received a warranty letter from BMW for a car you don't own? I just got a letter about a white 440ix with a VIN I've never owned. At first I thought it was my previous 430i even though I was pretty sure it wasn't my old VIN either. The letter is about the evap purge valve.

Does this mean I can call BMW and have a keyfob made? 😂

Got the letter today and thought it was for my old car. Called them and all they said was disregard the letter. They checked my actual VIN and said there no warranty that applies.

I looked up the vin on real oem and it’s the same engine but different production month and year. So maybe the later month had a defective valve?

Interesting. Seems I'm not alone. I wonder if BMW had an invalid mail campaign go out. Maybe a developer ran a wrong query and got a finger wag from his manager lol.

For me it seems like a 2018 440ix based on the production month and year. I have a 2019 made about a year later than what's on the letter.

so are they all B58? because my b58 is 10/2015 and the one on the letter is 08/2016. If it's affecting 2018 and 2019 models this could mean all of them? So why would some be recalled and not others? Since someone said they called and the guy on the phone said it wasn't there's that was recalled. Something is off and yeah like you said the query looked up the wrong vin for each owner but doesn't mean it's not part of the recall just they screwed up the letters somehow.

I think the VINs were correct but sent to the wrong address.

Anyone actually have this problem and have it fixed out of pocket? I got letters for PCV and Fuel Tank. I did get reimbursed for the PCV and had the Fuel Tank issue maybe a few months after getting the letter so it was replaced under warranty.
