Yup, nothing to be done other than wasting your time

I too am having wind noise of the drive side. The passenger side is fine. Today while looking around, I noticed the passenger side has the following insulation in the door while the drive side does not. Can anyone confirm that it's supposed to be there?

Just got my new F30 328I msport over the weekend. 10 miles on it which was sweet. I notice wind noise if I don't turn on anything, radio, AC etc. I think it really depends on people's tolerance to it. I don't mind it at all. I typically have the radio on, so I even hear even less, barely notice it.

Went to the dealer today to discuss the fender insulation. I took a look at early built cars where neither side had insulation to recent built sedans only having it on the passenger side. I took a look at a new 4, both sides had the insulation. The service advisor and I were rather perplexed. Guess I'll let them have another stab at fixing it. I get the sense that that extra insulation would help, going to see if I can push them to put it in. Worse case I will see if I can order and put it in myself.

Crapola. I've had my f30 for about a month now and I've been meaning to post about this. I even took it into the dealer, they checked the seals and cleaned them and everything with no luck. They said the techs drove an exemplar car and noticed the same thing. What a crock! This is a known design flaw yet BMW hasn't done anything to address it?!

Thanks for the info and picture. I am not near my car now to check out the insulation on my 2013 M-Sport, but will check tomorrow.

My wind noise is is on the passenger side.

Although it's not a big deal and does not bother me too much, when our car was new and I was sitting in the passanger side, I thought that a window was slightly open when I first heard it. I then thought that it was due to the outside mirror. When I brought it up to the Service Advisor at our local dealer, it was just shrugged off.

Why hasn't anyone on the forum organized folks to voice this on their social media pages? This is clearly a problem, it's noticeable in my buddies 328i...very noticeable. BMW needs to fix it, it does impact purchase decisions of prospective and existing customers.

BMW couldn't care less. The 3 sells like hot cakes. But road & wind noise, and lack of ventilated seats is why I'm getting rid of my 328i. Can't wait to dump it.

Getting the 3 series was a poor decision. I should have stick to 5.

I would call it a wind "buffeting" sound that comes from the windows on BMWs 3-4's. I have had 4 E46 and ALL of them had it- it is a BMW weakness. My business has had 50+ cars over the years- Audi A6's (1990's early 2000 models and they were QUIET- Lexus SUV no problem- BMWS (except for my old Z4M believe it or not) have had it. And while I can live with this- it does bring up my other BMW pet peeve- and much has been said about this too- the HK sound system is TOTALLY inadequate. Not even close to BMW "peer" Vehicles- Merc, Lexus, Audi etc... If I could crank up my jams- crystal clear and loud- then I could care less about the buffeting sound emanating from my windows.

The wind noise issue coupled with another issue have kept me sidelined longer than expected. I fully expected to see this issue resolved and its not. It's costing BMW sales as everyone I know who's looking, I've told them about the wind and road noise. In at least two instances the folks wound up with Audi products.

The only problem that if one is looking for a 4 door car there is nothing that Audi makes that equals the 435GC for the price. They all have nice cars but the 435GC to me is just the best. Its an excellent drive but yes I do wish they would put an end to this nonsense- I think they are smart enough to do it but its almost like a "hallmark of the brand" at this point?

I love the 435GC but I've not yet driven one. My point is (and not to keep the thread on topic) that in this class of vehicle there are expectations that folks have. They may be selling a lot of 3 series vehicles now but if a large percentage are impacted by wind/road noise that could be a problem for the brand. And so far in my limited experience with the F30 they seem to suffer from this affliction. Two guys I work with have F10 5 series vehicles and they are virtually silent inside.

We'll see how BMW reacts with the mid cycle refresh, it's disappointing to see they've not yet addressed this issue.

Well I dont believe that it is a deal breaker. Those are 19's and I dont think that the road noise is excessive its really depends on the pavement- most is OK- I would like it less but these ARE "sports" cars? (Thats up for debate but..) . And more sound deadening (that you can buy thrid party BTW) is more weight so... But the wind buffeting from the Mirror/window wherever is again up to the buyer- I admit dont like it but I doesn't grind at me at all- but 3 things- 1> I have had BMWs for 14 years and maybe am used to it? 2> Ive had a E46 convertible for 2 years- and while pretty solid for a convertible this is a library compared to that! Just the nature of the cloth 3> I will be upgrading the sound system and it will drown out that buffeting noise.

I get quite a bit of wind noise too. Normally my music's pretty loud but today it wasn't on and I realized just how loud it is. My mother who rarely goes in the car commented on it too and she knows nothing about cars/never pays attention to anything car related.

If you value isolation then you simply chose the wrong car. The 3er is and always has been more sport oriented. The 5er a capable runner with luxury touches and then the 7er is the full on luxury cruiser. Folks who buy the brand name rather than the driving experience pine for the 3er to be a baby version of the bigger models but that was never the intention. Sales will never be impacted by this.

There are many sport oriented cars in the same class that don't sound like you left the window open: Q50, IS, ATS, A4, etc. Wind buffeting has nothing to do with sportiness. Tire noise, maybe. Wind noise, no.

I understand you are looking down on the "infidels" who dare to care about noise in their 3 series But some of us spending $50 on a car wouldn't mind a little bit more refinement, especially when most of the competition already nailed this aspect. That's all.

My car has some wind noise and a rattle from the rear door. Do I care? No.... I keep my music volume up and just ignore everything else.... I just focus on driving and enjoying my car and will probably bring these minor issues to the dealer on my first service.

At the end of the day, no car is perfect. Better to just enjoy what you have and keep things simple.

True. But different ppl enjoy different things, in different ways. For me, the car has to be refined first and sporty second. For you, it's the other way. You made a great choice. Me, not so much

Do ride in a Chevy Malibu on the highway or a Ford Fusion. That is wind noise.

This ... I completely agree. Recently I notice the increasing wind noise on my 2014 328. With 17k miles on it now, I feel like wind noise is getting worse as it ages. For me, the noise level is OK on a $25k car, like the VW GTI that I had. But not acceptable on a premium $50k car, like the 3 series.

I just wanted to see if anyone noticed a misalignment in the front doors causing wind noise.
I took a piece of paper and closed the door with paper placed at different points. What I noticed was when the paper was shut closed at the bottom of the front doors the paper would easily slide out compared to the upper portion of the doors. I have brought the car to the dealer 3 times telling them to check alignment and they keep saying it's fine. So I can finally show them proof of misalignment . Anyone else notice what I'm discovering here?

Wow, what a disturbing thread. I have an 07 E90 which is very quiet. Worst thing about it was the tire noise from the original Bridgestone RFTs. Dumped those for Michelin GFTs and that quieted everything down. I had considered buying a new F30, but wind noise would be very distracting and irritating. Hard to believe that this has gone on since F30 inception and BMW has not fixed it yet, at least three model years in.
