Used to love the Bendix white surface pads you could buy here in Australia but they got banned due to the asbestos in them, but they had zero dust.

I wash my F30 every week. I find the brake dust less than my two prior E90's.

E90 used low dust pads in all versions beginning 2010. F30 has low dust pads in all versions except MSport. BMW wanted to offer a quicker biting pad for the MSport. I personally wish they offered an opt out option. I will not be looking forward to wheel scrubbings again. Been happy with my E90 MSport and its clean wheels. |

I barely made it home from the car wash without brake dust after physically scrubbing my rims in my 2007 e93. I'm 3000+ miles in and I've only physically touched my rims a handful of times on my 2012 F30 335i with 19s. It's MUCH improved!! For the most part I just spray the rims down once a week @ the car wash. I wish I could say the same for the damn black paint!

They do dust quite a bit on my 335i M sport as well. This is due to the material used for the pads. Changing the pads is the only real solution. German cars are known to have dusty brakes...they have for ever. As noted above they tried a less dusty variety for the US wussies. But we M sport owners are known to be effing nuts...
Wheel waxes do help. Even the simple one http://www.amazon.com/Armor-All-7848.../dp/B0035XGPNA works pretty well for extending times between wheel washes. I'd say on our Z4 (another heavy duster) it extends the time you feel it necessary to wash them to at least weekly....maybe biweekly. Due to our drought I haven't washed any cars in a few months. Brake dust. Don't know how the Luxury Line keep their wheels clean. It seems the F30 335i is still having brake dust build up but maybe not quite as bad as the E90's.

TONS of brake dust!
Took my 2013 F30 M Sport to the dealership for repair after 400 miles (Nav went out...) and when I pulled in under the lights I was HORRIFIED about how much brake dust was on my beautiful Alpine White Bimmer! It was everywhere!
I talked to the service manager about it and he said waxing the wheels might help... If not, then I guess I'll just wash the wheels every couple of days. PITA, but the worst part is my gorgeous car doesn't stay pristine! |

After 2200 miles the brake dust on my M Sport is much better than it was when I first got it.

Glad I'm not the only one. Just hit 1000 miles and my 13 335i M Sport has dust everywhere. Have to clean the wheels every few days. Hope it stops but not hopeful.
I have noticed that these brakes do have some bite as compaired to me last 335i. It's taking me some time to get use to actually. Especially during a slow rolling stop at a light. My 2010 335i didn't have this issue but was not an M Sport. Last edited by csnyder335i; 12-11-2012 at 11:12 PM.. |

I wish my car had the higher dusting euro pads - they stop much better!
For those of you looking for a less dusty pad that still stops well, take a look at the CarboTech 1521. From their web site "The Carbotech™ 1521™ is our high performance street compound. The 1521™ compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521™ is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech™ 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800°F (426°C+). 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech™ 1521™ is NOT recommended for ANY track use." I used these on my Evo X and loved them. Very low dust, great bite, no noise and they worked ok for me in autocross and a light track day (on street tires). Strongly recommended! |

Have any of you looked into caliper covers? I've read how these can help block much of the brake dust from getting to the wheels and even improve braking performance. I don't know how much of that is true and if these are even available for the F30, but curious if any of you have considered them (or avoided them).

I have just under 5000 miles on my M Sport 328i and I get tons of brake dust. I'm a clean freak and as a consequence I'm cleaning my wheels like every other day. I love the performance of the brakes however. My Subaru (stock style pads, braided steel brake-lines, aftermarket slotted rotors) give NO dust. It also gives no braking performance!
