There was a post by Dinan rep somewhere on this. Every piggyback can be detected if you dig deep enough. After all the factory calibrations are known and if you use a piggyback to mess with them the ECU can log irregularities.

The dealers are highly unlikely to bother as they want to pass as many cars as they can through the shop and get paid.

However, if the engine blows and dealer has to involve BMWNA engineers to approve warranty repair then yeah, they might look deeper, find the irregularities and deny the claim.

Not sure I'd worry about a 2012 for too long since warranty is either up or extended is very close to being done.........

From a void warranty.

Out of tens of thousands of cars modded, how many times did any dealership catch a tune after it was uninstalled (with no other mods on the car)?

Geez...here we go again. Ask your dealer if they're cool with a Dinan product. That said, I don't think you need to worry about the long term affects of a max 4psi boost.

I have a stage 3 on 1 car and the Dinan Sport on my x3. In my case, my dealer is a Dinan distributor.

Just ask the dealer first. I they say no, try another dealer. Most don't care re Dinan.

This whole "remove before you go" has a certain moral incorrectness about it....IMO of course.

So if you go to the dealer with a blown motor trying to get warranty work, you don't think BMW will dig into the ECU? You're clueless or don't care about what you tell your customers by telling then they're safe! I guarantee you that Dinan will agree with what I am saying. Good luck with that buddy...

You did not answer my question. Out of tens of thousands of tuned cars, how many got caught and got their warranty cancelled after removing the tune (without any other mod on the car)?

In theory, yes they can look and might catch you. In real life this has never happened.

Don't ask me a ridiculous question that even you can't answer yourself!

Bottom line...don't tell people "they are safe" if they remove their tune. THAT IS A FALSE STATEMENT!!! ***FACT***

Do you have proof of this?

Proof of what? That BMW can detect the tune? They sure can!

Maybe you should be asking the other party of proof that it's undetectable and safe!

Are we doing alternative facts here now? Cool.

Your odds of getting caught are low. Therefore you are considered safe. Safety is relative. Nothing is 100% safe. If your definition of safe is 100% safe then nothing is safe. Flying in a plane isn't safe, driving a car isn't safe, walking down the street isn't safe, even a safe isn't safe.

Point is lots of cars are modded and relatively low warranty voids due to those mods so your odds of getting voided on your warranty are low which makes you safe.

Doesn't matter that tens of thousands of cars are modded. I've been modding cars for 30+ years. The point here is that tunes are detectable regardless if you remove it...

I never said they are not detectable. I said if he removes the tune he will be safe. flipnkraut explained it perfectly

What is the OP's thread about? He's asking if the tune is detectable, right? And what was your response to his question? So long as you remove it, you're safe.
