340i aftermarket exhaust

Other than BMW that offer either the backbox or full exhaust upgrade with remap who else currently is offering an exhaust for the 340i model? I presume companies are starting to develop for systems this model now?
Decided I want a bit more noise but hopefully for less than the cost of the BMW kit.

Interesting. I was thinking my 440i didn't need one (and I've had upgraded sports exhausts fitted to my last four cars). Largely that's because listening to the Youtube clips of the MPE on 340is, instead of just making a louder version of the standard rather cultured engine note, it appears to change it to a rather loud blaring noise that isn't all that appealing and sounds almost like a big diesel.

whoh there no need for calling it a derv thats just nasty....

I agree I cant see why there isnt a sytem out there to make it either a louder version of stock but not blaring race car esk or a deeper sound ala straight 6s of old.

My Son had the MPE system fitted to go with the MPK on his 435i which in his view was a waist of money ie only just a little noisier than the standard. Then had this fitted which is absolutely amazing possibly the same for the 3/440i awesome sound and switchable. http://www.ipe-f1.com/index.php/en-G...s/bmw/335i-f30

You mean it sounds like a M3

My missus has a straight 6 in her E89 Z4 it sounds superb... refined and roars under a bit of welly. In her last 350z she had the Nismo system which is exactly as you describe just a bit more of the original sound, so know where you are coming from.

Having driven a 440i yesterday for a few hours it was OK exhaust wise with a few pops and bangs but anything above that sounds very tinny & rattly IMO

You need to listen to them in person. Youtube really does not convey the sound at all well.

The BMW exhausts you can always sell for half of the new cost when you are done with them so they are fairly affordable.

I had an MPE fitted yesterday on my 335i for £750 with the normal tips. It was much cheaper than any of the other cat back systems I could find.

I've not had it long enough to comment on the sound, as far as to say I didn't notice any difference on start up or on the drive home (to be fair in town below 30 and low revs).

I am hoping that (I've read as much) it changes in tone after a while as it soots up and the packing material settles down. The carnewal system I put on my Boxster S ended up being very well judged but I do remember thinking it was too quiet when it was first fitted.

You need to put the car in Sport Mode to get the best noise from the MPE

Always more fun with flaps wide open

Both probably more expensive than the MPE though.

I found the MPE on my M235i was just about perfect once a few thousand miles were put on it, it was plenty loud enough in Sports mode with plenty of pops and bangs on the over run, and quiet enough in Comfort Mode.

I was always surprised how loud it was the few times I was outside the car and someone else was driving it past me

You can't ask for more than that really.

A good point. I thought the same. If you can get the MPE fitted for £1k it's certainly going to be worth half that when you take it off again at new car time.

Man maths makes that a TCO of £500 over 3 years - so a bargain
