I've had this issue multiple times now. Every time I've had a message on idrive saying 'Drivetrain Malfunction'. The first time in the dealership for this issue they replaced the fan, immediately after I picked up the car it happened again. I returned and the next day they replaced the intercooler. Was good for about 2000KM, but just got the message again last night...

Aftermarket IC on order!!!

Interesting that I haven't read of any '15 335i M-Sports or the new 340i having this issue yet. Can we assume it's been fixed for '15s and the new 340i (might be too early on the 340s)?

Just happened to me one week into my cpo 13 msport 335i xdrive ~29k miles... Went from comfort to sport while driving, naturally followed by a heavier foot and bam- limp mode loud fan; the works! Was on my way to dealer to get warranty work (trunk piece was coming loose/clip was on its way out).. Next day sa called to tell me they needed to replace fan, should be here this week and crossing fingers that this is a permy fix..
I will note, since I have had my car back (no fix waiting on part/hateddddd the loaner 320i they gave me) I gave had 0 issues...

It has already been established that Normal -> sport or any kind of drive style will not cause the "limp mode" unless you can duplicate on demand.

the Limp mode is totally random as far as i can tell. I have had it just under drive normal driving.

I think the problem is completely software related. not hardware since i have had pretty much all the related hardware replaced on my F30 and still had the limp mode.

Sometimes i could go thousands of miles without 1 and sometimes i could get 2 within 1 week.

Your 13 might still have an issue. It's still under warranty so just pick it up if everything else fits the bill.

Despite taking to my 335i to my dealer several times for this problem, The limp mode issue was never resolved. I therefore moved on to a different car.

Happened to me one time when I got the car last year. Dealer replaced the solenoid and the fan. 10 months later now and I haven't have the issue one time So it is fixed for me.

I have a MY14 335i and built on 11/2013. I was wondering if my car will be affected?

I have not experienced any issues on Limp mode but just want the dealer to apply the SIB/TSB before my warranty runs out. I also don't drive in SPORT mode, if that makes any difference in reproducing this issue.

I actually had started my own thread since I didn't know what the unofficial term "Limp Mode". The guys there informed me about Limp mode and is currently at the dealer being checked. The service guy told me he was going to check the fan for sure. Had limp mode again this morning with the car not shifting properly (no fan noise though) and of course, no lights lit up on dash. I just wanted to know if most of the people on this thread that got it fixed, if it was in fact a permanent fix or temporary? Anything else I should ask the service guy to check?

add me to the list
2013 335i xdrive msport 8AT
fan kicks on high / major loss of power till you switch it off and on again
I noticed it happens on comfort mode when the throttle is pressed suddenly to the kick down switch . I never had it on sport plus . At least till now

scanned it today and found 1a2108 fan related code and 122108 blow off valve stuck closed.

will see what will happen

Just posting that my 2014 328i had this happen twice back in early 2014 and after a few dealer visits it has never happened again. Same with the front sensor fails that used to report to be careful of pedestrians as they were giving errors. Dealer replaced the sensors and never had an issue again.

My 2013 335i xdrive Msport is at the dealer getting this fixed as well. Happened 3 times to me in the past 3 months, all random driving conditions.

What are they doing to get this 'fixed'?
I've had my '13 for a year and it's happened to me a total of 3 times. Not too common, but still annoying when it happens.
