Question Does rim width affect max load rating or cushioning ?

This might have been covered elsewhere but was wondering about the max load rating. If a Tire is on a 7-1/2" width wheel and the same tire is put on a 8-1/2" width wheel does the tire have more max load rating and /or cushioning ? Is there an advantage or disadvantage when picking width of wheels other than handling and aesthetics ? I assume that you pick a wheel in the middle of the tires recommend width range...right ?
