Paddles Only Shift Up?

Hey all, I finally installed my new M Sport steering wheel today! Only thing is, after enabling the paddle shifters through coding, both paddles only shift up. I did the following coding after installing the wheel:

PADDLE_VERBAUT from nicht aktiv to aktiv

Does anyone know what the issue is? I'm going to assume it's a wiring issue but if anyone can confirm and how to fix it I'd appreciate it.

They're what you don't want to be up a certain creek without.

But seriously, you've never heard of paddle shifters?

I think he's just looking for kudos and a medal like usual for being superior and having 3 pedals, like it's some kind of major accomplishment.

I suppose one could say that still having to use a buggy whip is an accomplishment as well.

Now that's sarcastic.

If MTs were still relevant the M4 GT4 would have one. It doesn't.

Define "relevant."

I'd take a manual any day just because it's more fun to drive. I drive my cars on the street, I don't care if the auto shifts a half second quicker than I can. It's nice to be in control and responsible for what happens.

I drove MT for 30 years, through my '99 model, so it's not like they're foreign to me. I drove them because they worked better than autos. I made the switch when that was no longer the case.

Sounds like you care only about the utilitarian aspects of a car, which is fine, but then I'd question why you don't own a Honda Civic or a Toyota Camry?

I'm partially joking about that..

We buy these cars because we want them and enjoy driving them not because we need them as there are a lot of cars available for less money that will get us where we want or need to go. The fun to drive aspect is a nice perk and I enjoy driving a variety of cars but if it came down to a choice of a car that I did not like driving or no car at all the choice would be obvious because I depend on a car for basic transportation.

What some find makes a car more fun to drive is purely subjective and I am certainly not about to dispute it. The fact that some people find MTs more fun to drive does not mean everyone else does. And the fact that some people prefer paddle shifted ATs or DCTs doesn't mean everyone else should. BMW and other car manufacturers offer choices and not everyone makes the same choices. To tell someone that they made the wrong choice or that they are not having as much fun driving their car as you are or that their car is using obsolete technology is like going up to someone in a restaurant and telling them they ordered the wrong thing and are not enjoying their meal as much as you are. As the saying goes "Different Strokes For Different Folks".

As for being in control when either the DCT of the 8AT are in manual mode the driver is controlling the shifts and is responsible for what happens. If that was not the case those transmissions would not be in the track and race versions of BMWs M cars.

I totally agree, different strokes for different folks! I did not mean to turn this into a debate of 3 pedal vs 2 (I like and have both). I was just calling out somebody who has to pop up in any transmission thread as if he deserves a major-award-leg-lamp-for-having-a-6-speed which confused another poster.

Hopefully the OP will or has figured out a solution to their problem.

Well the seller has agreed to send me another paddle shifter circuit board. Hopefully a simple swap will fix the issue!

Lol I know. Every time I get a notification there was an update to this thread I thought someone had a solution for me. It's cool, I think the new circuit board will solve my issue.

I think that the circuit board is a likely suspect. Whatever the problem is it is extremely unlikely that there is a problem with the transmission. I think it is either a circuit board or a wiring problem.

Yeah circuit board is only likely problem based on how these paddles work. Considering they came pre-wired and there's only one way to wire them, the issue would be the resistance when the paddles are flicked. Can't wait to have properly functioning paddles on this car.

It is possible that there is a wiring issue on the unit itself. In other words they may have come incorrectly pre-wired.

In any case I suspect that the replacement unit will solve your issue.
