Coolant temp question

Hello folks
My 2014 BMW 328i a drive temp while driving used to be around 200F but recently on the highway while going between 75-85 mph it started to have the coolant temp hovers between 230-240 (see attached picture)… Is this normal ? I checked my coolant level and seems to be fine (around low arrow on the reservoir).
What can cause the temp to go up ? The outside temp was around 65F today.

Thank you in advance

That gauge is oil temp, not coolant. And it's reading fine. It fluctuates depending on a myriad of conditions

I made the same mistake myself…it’s an oil temp gauge….notice the little oil can on the gauge….

Mine always covers the 2 in 250 and stays there. Is this the first time you've fully warmed up the engine? lol

For efficiency, it will run higher temps during cruise, all normal as others have mentioned.

As everyone has already said, that is the oil temperature gauge. You can access the coolant temperature in your dash via a “secret menu”. That is where your oil temperature should be at. The coolant temperature and the oil temperature are usually around the same temperature when warmed up. If you oil temperature is low, like around 200°, this may indicate that your coolant thermostat is stuck open. This is a common issue with those engines. Something to keep in mind, not saying your thermostat is broken.
