ASS Restart with Wheel Turn
Just wondering the thinking behind why the car will start when the wheel is turned slightly as an alternative to letting out the clutch.

not sure why they decided to do that.
i think it has something to do with the turning mechanism.....requires power from the engine? im sorry im not able to explain it technically. i know in cars with a hydraulic pump....try turning the wheel while the car is off and its difficult. turn it with the car on and its easy..........im assuming its the same case with our electric steering.

if you're stopped and turning left or right at an intersection it tries to anticipate drivers who lean on their wheel before they come off their brakes?

Makes complete sense to me... turning the wheel with the engine off is extremely difficult. You want to turn the wheel? Engine turns on to make it easier.

It's part of the ECO logic. The power steering takes a lot of power from the electrical bus, so much that the bus voltage will get too low if the alternator isn't making power. So the ECU sees a demand for power steering, and starts the engine to meet the electrical demand.

Or the fact that it's electronic steering, and I guess BMW doesn't want unassisted power to turn the electronic steering motors.
