Awesome. Now go have a beer & steak at the Breakfast Creek Hotel. I love that place. Especially the beer off the wood.

So much for PNP.

Its only taken BMW 10 years to get to this stage in Australia, we don't even get "BMW Apps".

The UK seems to get everything, have been told that BMW Apps can be turned on but there are only a couple coders in Australia that can do it.

But now being able to get Mail & Messages on the go is great, and the play by voice works fine when reading the messages & emails.
If you turn on 'view in locked screen', emails will be displayed as notifications and will be displayed in Text messages section in 'Office'. Do you have unread emails displayed in '@' section of 'Office' ? Can you post a screen shot ?

I have relatives that live in Oz. I would visit a lot when I was working Hong Kong. My only complaint with AUS is that you blokes drive on the wrong side of the road.

On the iPhone there are separate notification configurations for Messages & Email. So far in iOS6 beta 2 I have found the both Emails and SMS messages arrive in the EMAIL category and are not being parsed yet. Better than nothing at all.

Our vehicle's come here standard with the steering wheel on the righthand side, your the ones that decided to put it on the left

Have the emails & sms working ok but am going to actiavte the "BMW Apps", my X5 has all the hardware already installed so it just a matter of getting the 6NR code coded into my X5 which I have organised from Europe. Its only going to cost around $450 and thats including the new "Apps" media cradle for my iPhone, the normal media iPhone cradle I have does not support Apps.

Apparantly yes (I have a 4S), but you need IOS 6 installed on the iPhone?

Have you managed to code your car yet? I very interested in doing this myself.

Great news. I loved the functionality of having messages through the iDrive system so was gutted when I was told it was Blackberry only. I wil be upgrading my phone to IOS6 as soon as I get my car.

I'm an iOS developer so I installed the iOS 6 beta and this works great! It did take an hour or so (I think the car had to fully shut down in the garage) before it started working, and it only shows items that you actually receive while the device is paired, it doesn't show all unread items.

It's really handy because now it's easy to see if that buzz in my pocket was important or not without having to dig the thing out. The "messages" display got a button assignment so it's a quick jump.

Yes, this is what you need, first off is the snapin cradle part No 84211198308, this is a media/Apps cradle, the normal Media cradle wont work.

The eject box must be the media one, on the connector where the snapin cradle fits the two post (one on each side on the connector) will have brass incerts, if there all plastic it will need to be changed. (6NF)

You also need the 3 wire cable from the eject box to the CIC (iDrive) into video input 2

On cars after March 2011 you will need a FSC activation code (key) and you need to add to your Vehicle Order (VO) 6NR, which is the BMW Apps code..

The lastest firmware in the CIC is sensing the eject box so it you don't have the 3 wire cable connected it won't activate.

What happens once the 6NR code is loaded "BMW Services" becomes "ConnectedDrive" and in this menu is BMW Apps.

So first you need to get 6NR added to your VO and buy a FSC activation key. You can buy the 6NR retrofit kit from overseas & get the FSC from a European Dealer via the people that sell you the kit. Install hardware, load activation FSC and 6NR code and your all done.

Once 6NR is added to the VO you can take your car to a dealer (if he is willing) hook it up to the ISSS update computer, it see's that 6NR is added to the VO, (the FSC comes on a USB stick & has 3 files on it) give the dealer the FSC & along with the 6NR code they upload it to your CIC, all done.

The other way is the coders from Europe login to your car via a laptop connected to the Internet, a special OB2 to USB cable is required, they can send you that as well, its around $80.00.

As of the latest firmware version 43.0v upwards (that's around March build 2011) FSC keys are required and they cannot be generated by just anyone, they are produced in part by specialised software, private incripted keys held by BMW and merged with your VIN.

With lastest firmware upgrading will not be easy unless you can get a FSC key for activation, you well maybe able to code in what you want (say turn on or off brighter DRL's etc), but if it is a retrofit or a change of hardware then a FSC will be needed to activate the module.

Cheers!

I would contact bimmer-tech.net, email Patyrk, they will ask for your VIN number, that way they can check your bmw vehicle to see what hardware you may need.

You can order the bits a pieces yourself if you up to it, you need a Media/Apps cradle, there not the ones here in Australia but you can order it thru your loacl BMW spare parts dealer, has to come from Germany or you could get it from US ebay or spare parts dealer in the US. You also need the 3 wire cable from the eject box to the CIC.

There is actual a 6NR kit that comes with the above that retrofit companies like Bimmer-tech or a BMW dealer in the US sell.

You will need FSC code key if your firmware version is 43v or above. Your VO needs 6NR added to it also. You are going to have to get the FSC from say Bimmer-tech, they cost around $169 euros, they cannot be made up it will have to be real OEM FSC, you have no choice and dealers here cannot get you one for Apps.

There are few forum members here in the Australian section & also on Xoutpost forum that would have the USB D-Can OB2 cable. You need a laptop & internet connection as they can code remotely.

There a couple changes to the firmware required in Australia, although only minor to get Apps to work, whereas in the US ,UK & Europe you just need the parts & 6NR code & FSC, upload and its going. Our Country Specific Code for Australia stops it from activating, so this needs altering.

If a group of you got together in Sydney with fellow forum member that was doing a little coding, then thru a retrofit company buy the parts and they help get the upload happening. I know Bimmer-tech has a contact in Melbourne but not sure about Sydney (check there website), I am working with there contact here in the Gold Coast, Qld.

After 3 weeks of working on this to overcome the Australian software stopping Apps from activating its not all that hard an install now. But you have to buy the "Apps Cradle", "3 Wire Cable", "FSC" "Installation" & "Coding (with D-Can usb cable)".

Your dealer will install the cable (its actually a retrofit part that's used overseas, but left off our cars) if you don't want to pull your CIC from your dash, they will charge you around $400 to install it. All up its going to be $1000 excercise to get Apps working.

The Apps cradle ordered thru you BMW dealer here costs over $450 retail here in Australia (has a built-in fan to keep the iphone cool) after discount its still $376 if they give you discount. You can buy one from the US, by the time its freighted the price will be nearly the same. (I have one spare cradle at the moment).

If we lived in the US the hardware & FSC would cost half the price and your next door neighbour would probably be a coder with a little luck!

You're not alone. I'm suffering from the same issue with Beta 4. I only get SMS now. Removed the device from the car & phone and re-paired without luck as well.
