Funny thing, I still don't know if I have this on my car, apparently according BMWVIN I do so, I need to remember to check this out.
This video seems to be for the brand new FULL LED coming to the LCI 5 this fall, they are not yet available on the market......

You could be correct, I assumed it'd work in a similar fashion. Definitely, need to test this.

I didn't realize how well executed this was until after I ordered. I've spent some time looking into the details to see if I can "somewhat" easily retrofit it in my '13 335i.

On cars with lane departure, HBA is achieved with the KAFAS camera and KAFAS controller. For non-lane departure cars, with 5AC HBA as a standalone option, there's a unique rear view mirror which houses BOTH the FLA camera AND FLA controller.

My thinking is that it may be as simple as a mirror swap and some coding to enable this. The fact that it's such a cheap standalone option seems to support this theory. Has anyone else looked into this or run across any switches while coding their car? I should probably start a new thread...

On US-spec cars the HBA is either on or off, it's not the infinitely variable version.

It's the on/off version not the infinitely variable type.

US-spec HBA turns main beams either on or off, it doesn't vary it's intensity.

These threads are brilliant...and dangerous. I'd have never considered HBA but having read this I would have probably opted for it (and the ACC - other thread). Very impressed with it - i just thought it turned off main beam when it detected cars in front, then back on. But it's more than that. Dealers are really cr&p - they could sell a load more options but don't explain all this!

Pleased I didn't read this forum before ordering; my car would've been another £10k!

Does it do the left and right beams individually? That's my main interest.

No they don't, not not US-spec anyway. US-spec is the traditional discreet type which switches it either on or off (both lamps simultaneously), if u want the variable version u have to buy from Canada.

Neither does the US version (even with Adaptive) vary the direction of the beam. (For instance, the beam will move further left if there is a car on the left so it doesn't dazzle the driver)

Just come back from a 120mls trip with HBA on all the way - LOVE IT!!

I wonder why the US doesn't have this feature and when they're going to add it.

I gather you're referring to beam adjustment going around oncoming vehicles not the fact that the headlights will follow a turn.

Well, I found out that I unbeknownst actually had this function packaged in my vehicles and I officially LOVE this feature!!! I live in the city and tried this out to some degree, the lights turn in the direction you are driving, they do adjust for ascents and declines but with so many cars, I couldn't tell how it worked with oncoming traffic.

So, I've found some more videos to illustrate this great feature (thanks to OP SomeRandomer123 to point this out).

I too am wondering now whether I might be able to retrofit the HBA to my '13 335i. It looks like you're knowledgeable in regards to the necessary hardware. I've seen similar comments describing a simplified version of the KAFAS camera for implementing HBA standalone, but didn't know it might be a self-contained mirror/camera unit.

If you (or others) have learned any additional information about this retrofit, please share! (and perhaps start a new thread. )

Thanks!

Probably the DOT did not allow it. It's fitted to Canadian spec cars tho.
