Do I call BMW Assist

Morning

Car was driving like a bag of shit, yesterday very rough and noticeably less power than normal - this morning add coolant message has come on , car is coming up to 2 years old and was only serviced 2 months ago

Never been asked to put coolant in a car before - do I call BMW assist or book it in next week - am still safe to drive car as it says risk of engine damage!

Thanks in advance for helpful advice

Is there plenty coolant in 'tank'?

Is the cap fitted correctly.

Also are other plugs, leads etc all connected, nothing looking loose?

No harm giving them or dealer a ring, if they say drive it to dealer then they take the responsibility.

I would call BMW Assist and exaggerate the symptoms a little so they are more likely to send a recovery truck than a technician. That allows you to jump the BMW dealer's service queue and gets you a hire/loan car while your car is in, which provides them another incentive to prioritise it.

Check the coolant level, if it's only a bit low then it can't be the reason for running rough.

In my experience of BMW assist they’ll always send a tech out to assess the car before recovering it to a dealer.

What car is it?

If it’s a diesel aren’t they enjoying pumping coolant into the egr/engines due to failing egr coolers?
Even at an early age/mileage it’s a possibility.

I’d ring them and do what they say. You still have a year of warranty so no harm in completely nuking the engine really.

It surely can't be yet another hole in the rad...

BMW its happening far too often for my liking if it is...

I'd be calling BMW assist - they we decide if you need to be recovered or not.

That's not my experience. On the six occasions I have called them over the last 2 decades they only sent a technician out once. On four occasions they sent a recovery truck, and I resolved one before they had made a decision.
