Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo

Shamelessly pinched from E90Post. I'm liking that Alpina Green Touring quite a bit. |

I think I would seriously consider one of these next time around, I do love my diesels now. Interior looks great but I'm not a fan of the alloys, maybe it's the thought of cleaning in between all those spokes.

I don't relly think I would be too fussed about the extra power and torque, but one thing I would be interested in finding out in due course is whether the suspension they have gone for is an improvement over the F30... as it may be worth considering. Also, they have an LSD as an option (for the xdrive version too- though it is LHD only), so interested to see if it is similar to the BMW performance one |

@Tengocity:
The Alpinas run on non run flat tyres, have a much, much better ride even on the 20" wheels which I hate the look of. If you want an LSD you can get a Quaife LSD from Birds for xDrive and sDrive cars. I also feel that the steering wheel is not as elegant as the M Sport one + the Alpina badges are very 70s in looks. Yuck. Very pricy proposition but there is a lot of hand re-building involved. It is supposed to be a brilliant drive.

If had the cash lying about, a D3 B-turbo touring would be high on my list, higher than anything else from BMW at least. The looks are like Marmite but I'm so bored of all the EBII and white F30/F31 M-Sports on the road (including mine), I think it would make a refreshing change.

I think I've said before, the B3/D3 certainly appeal to me. In fact Alpina generally. I think they have an exclusivity that can't be matched by the M cars and as my drive to work doesn't include the Nurburgring I'd be unlikely to experience any shortfall in performance or handling.

As for the LSD, that's something I will look into quite soon hopefully. I'm quite close to Birds so would be rude not too! And if the standard 313 horses gets boring then they also do the Hartge ECU, which puts it up there with the Alpina. |

The lack of choice for MSport colours was my biggest annoyance... I love the EBII but half of the cars must be this colour! Sapphire black is the worst black around, the white is ok, but its a solid colour and a pain to keep looking great, I don't like red, I found the Graphite grey utterly dull and drab as ditchwater, especially compared to a Space Grey or similar. Given that half the 3 series sold seem to be MSports, it seems odd to have the most restricted choice of colours and wheels on this range! |

The only thing that tempts me about a D3 is the ride, and I suspect that sticking decent non-RFTs on a factory car with M-sport adaptive will give you nearly the same result.
