2014 335i and JB4

Has anybody installed the JB4 from Burger on a 2014 335i?

BMW seems to have made some minor engine change in August 2014
necessitating new version of the MPPK after July 2014.

I was just wondering if the JB4 needed modifying because of that.

Had the JB4 Stage 2 on for a few days, kept throwing the car into limp mode. Email Terry at Burger Motorsports to see if they have addressed the issue or if there is a known one. He told me to try stage 1 instead so I am still debating going that route until issues with the stage 2 have been resolved, but now idea if that would cause the same issue or not

I am surprised that people have the balls to put something like that without risking voiding the warranty, i don't have any aftermarket stuff and have had so much problems with the car, currently waiting on bmw to see if they ll buy the car back

It's like threads about people with exploding engines or constant limp modes on a completely stock car. Could just be a faulty device or user error. I can count the number of 'bad' experiences on one hand out of the thousands out there running perfectly. The internet is a place where complaints get the most attention.

Not saying the JB4 is perfect, or BMW is perfect, but I don't know anyone who has had a 'wet issue' or limp mode because of the JB4. If you look at the instructions for the JB4 it tells you where to put it so that it doesn't get damaged due to water. Naturally, an electrical component placed in water will get damaged but if put in the right spot, it shouldn't get damaged (unless you happen to spray it with a steady stream of water that is, but that's probably common sense).

Just to clarify, I ran the Jb4 stage 2 in my F10 535 for three years without one problem and it was great, great product. I had Terry install the Jb4 himself on my '14 so it def not "user error" or any "wet" issue as all connections and module were sealed. It is def a problem with the '14 engine. It is still a great product Imo

I m about to pull the trigger soon like u man! Those Meistershaft need a dp and ecu to release the real power. I ve heard Cobb doesn't have a plan to develop one for f30 yet.
9 out of 10 rated jb4 as excellent produce in my group in Arizona. I might do more research before the final decision.

ER seems the most popular option for f30 at this moment. But why do you mod your 3er when you have a m6?
Send some pictures to share with us when you have the new exhaust on your the M6!

My point exactly...Now Im thinking just F the Dp and just wait for a good flash if it ever comes out...the 335 as is has plenty of power to mess around with on my curvy roads...The m6 is frankly dangerous in most of those places. Going to track it at VIR soon cant wait!!!

Edt: So after driving it a fair amount today I realized the main reason I really want the tune is for throttle mapping and such. I love the car and the power but ever since I added the Meisterschaft I feel like the pedal is stiffer. So I know regardless Jb4 will do that, may just do the tune and say F the Dp just mostly because I dont want to deal with installing/removing plus more things to change when emissions rolls around.

I did the ED and picked it up on 9-11-13 at the Welt center..so I thinked the build date around August.

So far I had the JB4, tinted windows, plastic dip the grill, changing the fog lights & increase the brightness of the angle eyes to match the xenon lights, and code everything available on the F30.

Thanks Davinaii, are you tunning the JB4 Map 1 (91 octane)?
What do you feel was your real HP/TQ gain?

I had the the JB4 running on map 2, since my car had an electronic solenoid. It did not have the same boot as pneumatic solenoid. On the N54 forums, Terry said it's ok to run map 2. Here's his quote
"If you don't have the solenoid you can try map 2 instead of map 1 to cheat the system a bit. It's something we are actively working on though.

The JB4 is fully compatible. BMS has done several installs on them including on their new 2014 435 development car.

There are no known issues with 2014 but if a CAN wire is loose, etc, you'd have that sort of an issue. Often BMS will suggest the Stage1 for customers who are unable to install the CAN wires properly. As Stage1 requires only 2 connections there is less room for user installation error.

BMW change from pneumatic to electronic boost solenoid in mid 2013 caused problems for the JB4. It appears that they haven't solved the problems yet.

How about Stage 1 on the 2014s? I haven't seen much on updates for this, as most of the R&D has been put into the JB4.

I installed JB4 on my 2014 435i m-sport.

Car really moves in 1st-3rd gear now. Wow what a difference it makes.
I haven't got the logging working correctly yet, could be my laptop, not sure yet.

But the JB4 is definitely working correct, this is just running map 1 as of now until the electronic solenoid issue is fixed.

As a few have mentioned, currently there is no Stage 2 that's useable on the MY14 435/335 until Terry figures out how to control the electronic wastegate controller that appears all 14's have vs. the pneumatic boost solenoid on most MY13 335's. Terry said you'll basically get performance between stage 1 and stage 2 as it stands. They currently do not have a time frame when they will try to figure out the electronic wategate on their MY14 435. I have 500 miles on my 14 335 and 500 to go before I install my mods.
It's highly unlikely stage 2 will be ready by then.

On a side note, MY14's have different mounting points for the Downpipes so the current DP's on the market will NOT fit MY14 335/435 according to Evolution Raceweks.
