Ambient Thermal Management FMIC installed

Annnddddd here is ATM's FMIC. This is a BEAUTY, very solid piece. Excellent excellent build. Install is pretty easy if you understand how the weird retaining clips BMW uses on the charge pipe and inlet piping work. I installed a charge pipe a few months ago and it was a PIA working with those clips but once you figure it out its pretty easy. Sorry the pics are in reverse order, and I will eventually take some Temp readings and post them when I have more time. I could tell a difference with this FMIC immediately, especially due to these HOT Houston streets/weather.

What did this FMIC cost, did it require any cutting at all, and did you have to remove the front bumper cover or did it just slide into place? I did a similar swap out on my 2007 E92 335i and was able to get the new FMIC installed without removing the bumper - the new one was the same general dimensions of the stock unit, but had a more efficient core design. This unit looks like it is deeper and taller than stock - any clearance issues?

It seems to breath better, and there's no more more of that "tired" feeling after driving it around in the heat all day.

I can't say the price, but they will be introducing a group buy real soon, I would def hop on if I were you. As far as the install there was no cutting or bumper removal. Just the plastic panels underneath the motor. Once u remove the stock FMIC it looks like there is no way the ATM will fit but it goes in perfectly and bolts right up. There's a plastic flap that u have to put some force on to get it out of the way, otherwise it's not bad at all. The only "issue" is I have an ER charge pipe that's apparently 3/32's longer than the factory charge pipe so it makes it a little difficult to get the driver side mount in the correct spot. Im positive the issue is the charge pipe because I had the same issue when trying to remount the factory FMIC when I installed the charge pipe.

Guys we are about to become vendors on this forum and E90 post. We were the original designers of the stepped core concept and our designs were sold by Helix in the past. This new F30 intercooler is incredible and features our new sandblasted with a polished logo appearance that will withstand the elements much better than a polished finish. We want to get a bunch of these intercoolers out there so forum members can see just how well they work and how nice they are out of the box, so pricing will be very low for our initial production run of 20 intercoolers. We will be reposting our data which includes ait vs stock and pressure drop vs stock!

We will be reposting the actual datalogs but here's the synopsis:

Test 1
The info below is a comparison between the F30 328 stock intercooler vs. the ATM intercooler. The scenario was set to log charge air temperatures and pressure before and after the intercoolers for three back to back third gear pulls. The probe locations are at the same place for both intercoolers tested. Ambient temperatures are 55°F during the stock intercooler test and 53°F during the ATM intercooler test.

Results are Real World Gains:
Pressure (Delta P) pre vs. post intercooler are near identical between the two intercoolers, ranging between .05-.15 psi.
Temperature (Delta T) pre vs. post intercooler are very different.
The pre intercooler temperature was 224°F for both intercoolers. The peak post stock intercooler temperature was 48.7°F above the 55°F ambient temperature @ 103.7°F resulting in 71% efficient.
The peak post ATM intercooler temperature was 15.3°F over the 53°F ambient @ 68.3°F resulting in 91% efficient.

Test 2
The info below is a comparison between the F30 328 stock intercooler vs. the ATM intercooler. In this scenario we tested the intercoolers in a standing start to top of 4th gear pull.

Results:
Again the Pressure (Delta P) pre vs. post intercooler are near identical between the two intercoolers.
Again Temperature (Delta T) pre vs. post intercooler are very different.
The pre intercooler temperature was 223.8°F for the stock intercooler. The peak post stock intercooler temperature was 45.2°F above the 55°F ambient temperature @ 100.2°F resulting in 72% efficient. The pre intercooler temperature was 222.3°F for the ATM intercooler. The peak post ATM intercooler temperature was 8.9°F over the 53°F ambient @ 61.9°F resulting in 94% efficient.

Install:
Requires NO cutting, removal and/or permanent modification
Utilizes factory mounting points- Yes
