Trunk Light
I have searched and could not find an answer to this question...do your cars have lights in the trunk? Mine doesn't. There is nothing in the owner's manual, realoem doesn't show a part number for one and I can't find any other reference to a light inside the trunk.
What I do have, on the under side of the parcel shelf in the middle, towards the rear of the car, is a rectangular opening with two loose wires inside it. They are live and not capped-off (very un-German). So is my car missing something? What are those wires for? Thanks! |

I've yet to get my cars, but the ones in the showroom had boot (trunk) lights. Don't all cars?

I thought it is a given that ALL cars have this. It's been so for as long as I remember. How else can you see inside the boot/trunk in the dark? Street lighting reliance is not the answer. Do BMWs have to be parked under a street lamp when loading/unloading the trunk at night? Off to the dealer you go and give them hell.

OK I finally found the part number. What seems odd to me is that my car appears to have been built without a trunk light. Seems like a peculiar thing to omit!

Mine has a double light in cool white in the centre under the rear shelf. Lights up the boot nicely.

There is a light on the roof of my trunk and it looks to be LED.

I will double check the trunk but every small light in the car is LED. Exterior is when things get a bit mixed up. Headlights are HID with LED, door lights are LED, tail lights are LED and halogen.

Thanks everybody! It is apparent there should be a light there and isn't. I guess this is what happens when your car is built immediately before the summer factory vacation. Off to the dealership I go to get a light and become illuminated!

I picked-up a light for my trunk but...it seems that not only was the light not there from production, but the wires are cleanly cut!!! There is no harness there whatsoever. Here's the tricky part - you can't just walk into the dealer and but the harness plug. It is not a separate part number. Plus the wires for the trunk light run uninterrupted from the central harness. To do the repair absolutely correctly, one would need to replace the main wiring harness.
Perhaps the best thing to do is find a wrecked f30 in a junk yard and pull the harness from that car. Then I can neatly solder and connect the wires together and have a light. Honestly it is fascinating to ponder what happened here. The car was a euro delivery so I had possession straight from the factory. And I recall being in a parking garage on the trip wondering about how to turn on the trunk light. That suggests that the car was built without one. Really weird! Oh well! Off to search junk yards for totaled f30's! |
