Airbag Not Recalled????
About a year ago various automotive websites reported that the Takata airbag recall had expanded to include my 2013 328i. Several months later I received a letter from BMW saying my car was included as part of the airbag recall. The letter also said parts were in low supply, but my local dealership would contact me as soon as the parts became available.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from whatever company is running Takata's bankruptcy. Saying that I needed to contact my dealership ASAP to schedule the replacement of my airbag or the cost to replace my airbag might not be covered. So, I called my local dealership today, and they tell me that based on my VIN, my car is not included in the recall. Good news I guess, but has anyone else had a similar experience?

Try putting your VIN into the NHTSA recall web site and see if they say your car has a recall against it.

In the Summer if 2016 BMW Dealers were telling me most of their 2012/2013 Lease Returns that would usually be put on lot as CPOs were red tagged and could not be sold or sent to auction as replacement airbags were unavailable. For those unaware, Dealers must buyback most all the leases they write. As thus they had “fleets” of red tagged vehicles. Yet there were minimal posts online about owner inability to receive replacements. The disconnect remains very puzzling. |

I have put my vin into a couple of different website to lookup if its included in the recall currently, and they do indeed say that my car is not included in the recall. I just found the situation odd and was curious if any other 2013 owners had the same experience or if anyone had more details.

We were told our 2013 328i X (built 10/2012) was not affected by the recall. The three E46s & E39 were handled perfectly once parts were in stock.

My 2009 E92 328 WAS included in the recall & I NEVER got the airbag replaced - dealer kept giving me the runaround.
Turns out I should have opted for the free loaner car they were offering until your car got fixed - seems those were the only people in my area that actually had the airbag replaced in their personal cars because the dealer wanted to get out from under paying for the loaner cars as fast as possible Once again -it's all about 'who can we fuck over the easiest' I traded the car in earlier this year with recall still in effect & not repaired. Dealer didn't say anything, didn't pay me any less for my car in trade, & sold it to someone else 1 wk later - so I guess it's their problem now

Lemme get this straight....the dealer gave you the runaround about a federally mandated recall, you sat on your butt and took it...and then you bought another car from him.
Looks like the answer to your question is you. Can you say “Baaaa”? |

My experiences at the service center versus showrooms can be night and day...just sayin'. I mean bad business is bad business which would've left a bad taste in my mouth but you never know how one might feel about it.
