Navagation Map Certificate ????
Hi Everyone.
I just took delivery yesterday, and while going through my owner's manual binder, I found a sheet titled "BMW Navigation Map Certificate". It says: "Please enter the Release Code with your iDrive controller to start the update process and to unlock your digital road map. Please keep the map certificate well stored" There's a release code listed (which is 20 characters long!) at the top of the page, along w/ my partial VIN and a release code part # at the bottom of the page. What is this and when do I need to enter this??? My Nav works perfectly right now. Do I need to enter the code now??? I have a 2013 335i... Thanks Everyone!!! |

Sounds like the dealer has already done it for you!

Thanks for the replies.
Is this a one-time thing, or do I enter this every year for updates??? Can software upgrades be done remotely, or would this just upload new map content? I was under the impression that owners paid for map upgrades? Sorry everyone, I've never had nav in any of my e90's. I've tried searching, but there are 7 million posts to read through; and unfortunately I have no time. Thanks for the help... |

You have to pay for each and every updates. The FSC is only good once and is associated to your VIN.
You can get the maps online, but for the code it's either the dealer or through someone who has access to them (insert legality explanation here...) The maps are fairly cheap or even free online, but the FSC codes are outrageously expensive compared to a lifetime update from Garmin for instance. And without the FSC, the maps are useless.
