I guess you mean the bumper carrier, in which case yes quite likely it's bent as it's designed to deform in a crash to absorb energy.

OP I hope that you are ok. Sometimes hyper-extension injuries take a few hours to show. BMW's are great at protecting the passenger compartment, but because of the self-sacrificing nature of the design repairs can be costly.

Make sure that you have the work done at a BMW collision shop. You were not rear-ended - the other guy's insurer will pay (no fault is a misnomer in Ontario). If you go to a Carstar shop they use a generic appraisal tool as do not know the cars and thus may order the wrong non-OEM or used parts, all of which is permitted in Ontario.

My car was hit by flying plywood. Body repair was as expected (bondo - but it is leased and I will not keep the car after the lease) The Carstar appraiser said to repair gloss trim that was gouged. He said use tape!

Needless to say, I insisted that the work be done at a BMW shop. They will not cover the scratches with tape and it can't be polished out so they have ordered the parts. Had the work been done by the generic auto body shop they would have taped over the mess and I would be paying for a replacement at lease-end.

Here in Canada if you are leasing you must take the car to an authorised body shop for repair. If you don't, BMWFS will charge you to refix the car on lease return.

Was the other driver at fault (from your description it sounds like it)? If so, why not go through insurance as it won't affect your rates and you can be sure it's fixed properly.

Don't know how it works in Canada, but in the U.S. if the at fault driver chooses to pay out of pocket you can't force him to make an insurance claim. That doesn't reduce his responsibility to pay 100% of the cost of a top quality repair.

Someone hit me, minor effect on bumper cover, but the rebar (or whatever that's called behind it) got messed up regardless. Definitely plan for it. $3000 for the fix, since I had them buy a new bumper cover after they fixed everything. The BMW bumpers are thin and the repair is not going to look right, due to general twisted look on the crappy bumper after the hit... The woman that hit me says she'll pay, I told her that it's not in her best interest... Looks like I was right to protect myself from a bad payer, at 3k, I doubt they will want to owe up to their word when all is said and done. Go through their insurance my friend.

Sry I call BS on that. I don't see how they can refuse to produce their insurance info. If someone told me that, you bet I call the police to get their insurance info and I'm on the phone with their insurance same day. There is no way in hell I would take some schmuck's word.
