From my experience, there are usually too many cars to be able to do solo runs. I was able to run one of my passes solo when I first got there, but the rest were against another car.

If you're concerned about accidentally hitting the car in the other lane, you can wait until they take off at the green light, then go at your leisure. Your time doesn't start until you cross the starting line.
