I pretty much only use EcoPro. The only time I don't is in deep snow, or when I autocross, or feel like I have to drive like an asshole (not often). Maybe I'm getting old, or something. I cruise to work, I cruise to school, I cruise home and I cruise to my girlfriends place 30 miles away on weekends. All in EcoPro.

I got this car to be my 'winter beater' and get decent gas milage, while also fitting my style and being a capable car when I need it to be. When I want to drive in sport+ mode I use my e36 m3. heh.

Each to his own but rolling in EcoPro all the time seems like a waste of a good 3 series to me.

I have found that I really enjoy normal mode in manual shift. I just feel like it allows the engine to rev up a little bit more compared to the sport modes and results in more fun without having to annihilate the speed limit. This also results in more exhaust note. Being in a major city suburb, for around town spirited driving, sport mode is too quick; to the point it's not really as fun. I would find myself going friggin 60 before I even began stretching out the car and started having some fun.

80% of the time im in normal mode, and about half of that is manual with the paddle shifters. If I have tons of open road then I flip to sport. Only once or twice in heavy traffic have I used eco pro.

BTW if you find the manual shift in the 8AT to be jerky, you are probably not shifting at the optimal point (under normal driving conditions). I've had it jerk the car a bit but I just self correct and basically shift later, depending on throttle. The tranny is very smooth when used right and is impressively fast.

Sport, mostly.. but Eco Pro has it's place with the MPPK on icy streets and snow. Like in the old days when I had the way too much torque 428CJ back in the Eastern Canada winter, and regularly started out in 3rd feathering the clutch just to keep the ass in line and not slide into the car in the lane beside you ... Less torque is good sometimes.. Eco Pro FTW in that case.

On my E92 i used the Side Sport selector more, but with 8 speeds, the tranny is my nanny now. Way too much shifting for 8 manual, unless there are special circumstances that present themselves.. I'm done driving Kenworth gearboxes.

Eco, when I drive during rush hour traffic.

Normal, lazy days.

Sport/Sport+, whenever none of the above occurs

I leave it in eco when there's a lot of traffic and traffic jams, highway as well, comfort if there's very little traffic in city. Sport on backroads. DS only when needed.

Sunday morning? Well, drop the top and have fun with 6MT Z4 :-)

question to those who came from E90 335i with AT, which AT mode on the F30 best represents D from E90? I find that D on the E90 is comfortable and sporty when needed with a quick touch of the pedal. DS isn't bad either ;-)

This is one of my favorite modes as well. Im pretty happy with Drive or Sport in comfort mode most of the time. I found last night for flat out acceleration from a stop though that Drive or Sport in sport mode is pretty great. Manual mode is nice in sport as well. I'm going to get stage 1 on wednesday and I expect the added power bump, esp the extra torque will make regular old Drive + comfort more satisfying.
