BMW's initial F30 official reveal press release clearly stated that an "M Sport Aerodynamics Package" (presumably the front bumper, rear bumper, and side skirts only) would ALSO BE AVAILABLE SEPARATELY from the full "M Sport Package". BMW has done this in the past with the E90 3 series, at least in Europe.
Can we find out if this standalone aerodynamics package be available in the USA? And if available, can it be ordered in conjunction with any line and in any F30 color, not just one of the limited M-Sport colors? |

Below text is from the press release. The key point is that they lump the cosmetic parts together into the aero package and say the M suspension is available separately. It is the passive M suspension is what you get with the Sport line. Quote:

Respectfully, I'm going to defend my original interpretation; otherwise BMW has their "and"s and commas in all the wrong places. Here is the quote:
"The luxurious package [the M Sport Package] is completed by an M aerodynamics package [no comma] featuring special body parts, [stop] and by chrome tailpipes, exclusive exterior paintwork and interior trim to match. The M aerodynamics package and M Sport suspension can also be specified separately." The "chrome tailpipes, exclusive exterior paintwork and interior trim to match" are not part of the M AERODYNAMICS PACKAGE, they are part of the M SPORT PACKAGE. This is apparently nothing new, because BMW offered the aerodynamics-only package on the E90 also (although it was news to me when I read the press release). |

Until we find out what the US version of the M sport pack will include, its hard to say what may be possible. I dont believe BMW NA has ever offered just the body kit in the US though and I dont think it will be the case now, as they would likely want to build a package for a set price to differentiate the model from the Sportsline. Im sure though if you really want the kit, once the M sport option is available in the US, you would be able to buy it yourself from your service center and have it installed, and in this case, you wont have to worry about the colors as you would have it sprayed to match your vehicle. I dont see them offering it from a BMW dealer in the US though in all colors, that defeats the purpose really, BMW NA keeps the costs down by limiting options and colors, so just think of what it would take for them to have to paint a "custom" M kit for a car that is not being specified as an M sport pack. While they do have these types of individual options in Europe, they pay alot to have this flexibilty, so I dont think its going to happen in the US anytime soon, if ever.

You know, the thing about HUD is, once you start using it, you may never want another car without it! Atleast the M version which makes you feel like your in a fighter plane cockpit versus a car. While it wont be the same as the HUD Mview, I still think that HUD is a great option for the 3er, and I think I'll have to order it on any future car, its really useful if you drive hard and want to keep your eyes on the road. Now if we could get the M view with the tach on a non-M, that would be the best

Jason, thanks for looking into these questions for us. I have a few more:
1. I've read in C/D that comfort is the "default" driving mode. Does this mean that you have to reset it each time you restart the car, like turning off the auto stop/start feature, or will it retain the last setting? 2. How do the different adaptive suspension settings compare to the fixed suspensions (i.e., is the adaptive comfort setting softer than the base suspension, or is the adaptive sport setting firmer than the fixed sport suspension)? 3. I'd like to get a definitive answer on the front license plate holder. Is it definitely a separate piece? Is it dealer installed (i.e., can it be left off)? If you do leave it off, would there be any visible mounting holes in the bumper? 4. Are the rear turn signals red or amber? Thanks!! |

Does anyone know why the panoramic roof is not available on the BMW sedans (unless I'm mistaken)? Any plans for the F30?
Thanks. |

I believe only the SAVs get this option, I have it on my X3 but have not heard or seen it on any sedan, they get the normal sunroof option, afaik.

I think my 2011 328i convertible has a GM auto transmission. Whatever it is, it can be rough in the cold at low speeds.
