Changing run flats- spare tyre required?
Dear forum members,
Thank you for all your assistance in the past. My boy is looking to change the run flats on his f30 320d m sport. Regarding a spare wheel what size of wheel and tyre does he need as currently he has a staggered set up Fronts 225/45/18 Rears 255/40/18. Do bmw sell a space saver and what size is it? Could he buy a spare rear wheel and tyre and will that fit the front as well as the rear to get him home in the same way as a space saver? If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it. Many thanks, Ade |

Mine didn't have the staggered set up but I have changed to Non RFT and just purchased a BMW emergency tyre inflation kit. Got a brand new one off ebay for £30.00. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2015-BMW-1...oAAOSw8OJZw6xT
I also keep a Dynaplug system in the car. |

Wondering if this is an alternative to the branded BMW kit?

Thanks to all who took the time to reply.
I have managed to buy a spare 255/40/18 wheel and tyre. With an aim to carrying this as a spare. Can someone confirm this wheel will fit the front and would okay to be used in an emergency (max 50mph) as a space saver alternative? |

Plus with the 255 section, you have an even larger volume of wheel to fit in the boot. |

I used to carry a full sized spare in my 330d, when away from my own area. Simply for that reason, lowest risk of being stranded away from home. I also carried a slime kit, that was always aboard, spare wheel or not. Belt and braces! |

Unfortunately my boy had 2 punctures, both were nails in the tread, on 2 rear run flats. Both had only recently been fitted and cost him £245 per tyre, as they couldn't be repaired this has pushed him into purchasing 'normal' tyres.

On a staggered setup a rear 255 tyre will rub on the shock when you steer, not so much to damamge the shock but after a couple of turns the tyre will be ruined.
When fitting my summers i somehome fitted a rear to the front, could have been the drink from the night before, early start or talking to my neighbour when doing it, but when i reversed off my drive i heard the rubbing & the steering felt weird. Noticed what i'd done and turned the air blue, tyre was OK but i'd taken a bit of rubber off the inside wall and removed paint from the shock. Wouldn't have wanted to drive a 255 on the front at speed! |
