Scratched the **** Out of Front Bumper. Options?

So i was making a U turn today and it was one of those situations where you either look like an idiot and slightly reverse to straighten out or try to G it and hope that you have enough space to clear the curb. I tried to G it and lost....badly.

See photo. Luckily it isn't TOO high up on the bumper. Its still relatively visible and the paint scratches are pretty deep.

What are my options? I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to get some paint but is there any point with this sort of damage? Anybody know how much this would run to get only that part painted? I guess i should be happy it came after two and a half years of driving without an bumper scratches from curbs.

Oh, if touch up paint is the right way to go. Can someone point me to the best directions on how to apply it (IE. what sand paper to use, how much to sand, etc)

Order a small can of spray color, clear and some 1500 grit paper. I bet you can touch it up so that you're happy. It's low so it won't be seen.

Ask if you need more help....

Don't forget the primer since it's down to the plastic

That's the source, but it's more complicated than that. First wet sand with 320g to get the dings out. Then wet sand with 800 and then 1200g to get it ready for the paint. Paint with color, then with the clear coat. See the video on their site as to how to get the new color to blend with the old. Give the clear coat 3 days to set, wet sand very lightly with 1200g and then final wet sand with 3000g 3M Trizact. Finally rub it out by hand. first with rubbing compound, then with polishing compound. Topcoat with your preferred wax or polish. On that note, this is the best topcoat ever:

I find that you can simply wipe off dust and dirt with a microfiber cloth, and very seldom actually need to wash the car, stuff just doesn't stick to it. It's like having a teflon coated car.

Sucks. I'd rather reverse and keep my car from getting eff'd up. Good luck.

touch paint will make it look worse and draw attention to it. ask a local body shop to spot spray. considering the location on the bumper no one will ever notice it was spot sprayed and then down the road when you have substantial damage paint the entire thing properly.

Wherever you live must have some seriously high curbs. Take it to a proper body shop and spend the extra to get it done right. I cheapde out once when I was trying to fix up an old Lexus before selling it and it was pretty obvious.

Also, you don't look like an idiot when you reverse to straighten out when doing a U-turn - you look like an idiot when you scratch up your bumper doing a U-turn.

That needs more then touch up paint. In that area of the bumper a good paint guy can sand, fill/repair and paint and you will never notice.

Ended up just using touch up paint. Maybe slightly better than what it was yesterday. Still kinda ugly but you live and learn. I'll upload a picture in a few minutes.

Do you own or lease? I did almost this exact thing when I leased a 2010 Maxima. They hit me $500 in damage when I turned it in.
